I,m still waiting for my surgery.  I still have to lose 80 pounds.  I wasat 386 pounds. I have lose 26 pounds.  But, I seem to be at a stand still.  My doctor still thinks I need to lose more.    So I am no closer to getting my surgery.  Than I was a year ago When I first saw him/  I been wait for almost five years.  Waiting to get my Medicare.  I,m just tired of fighting.

Hi
Why are you having to lose so much weight to get surgery?  I started out this journey at 449 pounds and my surgeon would have done it immediately but I had bleeding problems in my stomach that had to be taken care of first.  I hope you get your medicare soon.  With medicare you don't have to jump through as many hoops as with other insurance.  You just have to have the BMI and/or co-morbs.  And you know what, I missed the skinny girl in me too; but I can't wait to meet the smaller healthier woman inside of me.  I am 47 now and am having surgery on Monday at 7am.
Keep on fighting.....you will win in the end.

HI Doris I live in Corpus Christi but I grew up in Victoria. I had to lose 35lbs for my surgery. I ended up losing 42lbs. It was difficult. My highest was 412lbs in 2007. I tried losing weight on my own and I lost 25lbs. I weighed in at 387lbs at my surgical consult in March 2009. I had to do a 6 month med sup diet and lost those 42lbs.

What are you doing to lose the weight? Are you on a special diet? What might help is using an online food journal to document your food, protein and water intake. I use the Daily Plate. It has alot foods you can buy a HEB. Don't give up on the skinny girl inside of you. Don't give up on you.

Different surgeons have different requirements.  I hope you know after this difficult time, you will have a new 'tool' with your surgery that will make it easier next time and from now on.  You still have to work it, but you'll have good help.

My skinny (?) girl is a 58 year old woman now - but I think I'll feel MUCH younger!!!

I agree with Mary, Doris. The smart skinny woman is worth fighting for. Now that I'm lugging around 52 fewer lbs, I DO feel younger and zippier. I have a long ways to go, but we are all prematurely aging by having all these extra pounds.

I fought losing weight pre op. It took me from June 1 to Mid Oct to lose 37 lbs, but I finally got it off. I had told EVERYONE that I was going to get a lap band and they all encouraged me. I tried getting it off FASTER by doing liquids only, but I would get hungry by the end of the day and eat anything and everything. What eventually got the pre op pounds off were eating light meals and riding the recumbent bike. Small changes eventually give good results. I also was helped by tracking at Spark People and I was shocked to learn that I thought I was having 1200 calories a day and it was always more like 1500 calories a day. I think we sometimes are blinded to how much and how often we eat.

Keep it up and eventually you will jump through all the hoops and find yourself getting the surgery which TOTALLY helps!!

As a 52 year old morbidly obese woman, I only wish I were 39 again! You are waay too young to talk about giving up but  I know it's hard. I'm working to lose weight for surgery. I didn't think I could ever lose or even exercise much less see a skinny me but since I started this journey, I do feel better and hopeful again even after losing a small amount. I found some great advice and support on this forum. You've come to the right place. I've learned a whole lot more about vitamins and nutrition since I started. It helps me to plan what I will and won't eat, I try not to go into super tempting situations though!!  and have an exercise goal each day, Sugar Free Popsicles are great to keep in the freezer for those moments when you just want something! And when I blow it and I do! I decided I have to forgive, forget  and start over the next day (no one's perfect) Congratulations on losing the 26 pounds, congratulate yourself, that just shows you can do it!. Just keep on going and you'll feel better. I wish you all the best, hope you can get on Medicare soon and please know that you're not alone.
