Anyone (now or ever) have trouble getting motivated to exercise?

Ok, so in my head i am always trying to work myself up so i can do some type of exercise.  It never works, i don't do it.  I'm not sure why-what am i afraid of, it can only make things better.

So at night i work at a hotel and i had a strange idea, when i delivered the bills, i will use the stairs. Normally i use the elevators, but tonite, God helped me.  i am having problems with my bronchitis right now, so i told myself if it gets to much i will stop and take the elevator.

I did all levels,  i started on floor 1, then up i went, there are about 16 stairs between floors.  when i reached the 5th floor, i took the stairs all the way back down (which is easy-right) then walked back around the building.  My legs burn a little, but in my 2 years here, i have never used the stairs to go up only down.  I feel like it's an accomplishment, even if only a small one.

I plan to do this each night.

ps. I also decided my ass is way to lazy at home, so instead of sending my dtr up and down the help with the laundry, i did it myself.  I think i made about 4 trips in my house today, not many stairs but i was much more active then i normally am.

Now - that's what I'm talking about!  You go Girl!   I have the same issue and I have had doctors and other health professionals just say "move more" - it's a start.  The real weight loss equation doesn't change - it's calories in/calories out.  Last night you burned a few extras.  The added bonus is two-fold:  The more we move, the easier moving gets.  AND the more we move, the more fit and healthy we become.

I'm trying to move more, walk further, do steps, etc. and it is gratifying!  I feel like I can do more than I used to already.  So I totally get what you say.  Good going!

I am four years out and still hate to exercise even though I generally do it.  I will go through periods when I just can't get myself motivated.  But I do try to get a minimum of 20 min. in five times a week, just for maintanance and good health.

I find little bits easier to be motivated to accomplish, whether that's using the stairs, parking farther away, or keeping it to 20 min. instead of feeling like I have to do an hour.

If you find a way to bottle motivation, let me know!

Way to go.. 5 flight of stairs is nothing to sneeze at after not exerising at all.. that is a great accomplishment.. it is good exercise and will make a big difference in how you feel not only physically but mentally too.. you will be so proud of what you accomplish that you will want to try more.. just like you have in doing the laundry at home.. one thing will lead to another and before you know it you will find the motivation you were looking for was there all the time it just took you getting started.. and you did that climbing those stairs.. Kudos to you..

Keep moving ,, it all counts.

Good job!!

That's a very smart way to start out. I know some people get all gung ho and undertake these huge fitness PROGRAMS. They join a gym and get all crazy. Then they over do it and are back on the couch. I don't think it's healthy to try to go from the couch to Ironman in a week.

Anytime you can change up something gradually for the better, I think it's easier to maintain.
