Expectations - to plateau or not to plateau that is the question
Hello Fellow 50+ BMI'ers!
I have a question about how the weight loss happened post op? When does it start to slow?
I am not sure if what I am experiencing is normal.
I started at 477lbs. I lost 89 lbs in the 8 months before my surgery whi*****luded the 6 month pre-op program. I've lost 87 lbs post op about 5 months. As of this morning I am at 301 lbs making todays total of 176lbs gone .
None the less, I am frustrated by the fact that I have not lost any weight really in the last three weeks. I was losing about a half pound a day for a few weeks and then about three weeks ago it just stopped. For the past three weeks I have gone up and down from 300 to 305. THIS SUCKS. Its frustrating. I have tried working out more, eating more, all to break the plateau and nothing is working... ARRRGGGHHH!!!!!
Even despite the current plateau I feel that the weight loss is slowing down and I am trying to figure out why? It seems that perhaps because I have lost so much weight this far that perhaps that is why things are slowing down? Has anyone else experienced this? Does the weight loss slow as you get down into the lower numbers? I was really hoping to be down to 277 by my next Dr's apt on Feb 3rd and it doesn't seem to be happening... Wondering if anyone has any personal experience or advice to share. Thanks!

i started 453 an i been bouncing around 280-300 for the last 6weeks or so.... i dont weight every day.. i will 11 months out the 23rd of this month Jan. i was blaming my salt intake but i think its just a stall.. we have lost so much so fast our bodies need time to catch up an rest... i was getting dizzy/black out spells.. an docs increased my salt intake to get my blood pressure up it was way to low.. just do what u know to do an it will start falling off again... this morning i was 279 sooooo we are still losing it just takes time... dont forget to measure... we are always losing inches.. body reshaping incorperating muscles.. that weigh more then fat... etc.. good luck on ur journey... WE CAN DO IT!!!
6 months out my weight loss dropped to a crawl. I've read that's pretty common. My doc said 5-10 pounds a month from here on out.
My longest stall has been 6 weeks. I now seem to stall/gain-lose/putter around for two weeks out of each month and then lose my 5-10 all in the same week.
However, I do find that I usually drop a size when I'm stalling.
People have lots of theories on how to break a stall, but I think we're all different. My only suggestion is to up your protein for a week and see what happens.
Good luck, I know it is sooo frustrating!

One food makes you larger, and one food makes you small...
I found during times of no weight loss, my body changed shape for the better. I called it shape shifting. Every once in a while our bodies take a breather and adjust to all it is going through. Nothing scientific here, just my observation from being on this board for years. Loris

Do not be discouraged! We all stall/plateau. I was really frustrated when it happened to me about 6 months out. I took a break from exercising and upped my protein. Now the real work begins... I have been about 5 pounds a months now... but as I have returned to working out at the gym my shape is changing. I am concentrating on changing my shape and working with my workout instructor to help in the places that need help.
I only weigh myself on Sunday morning.... I used to weigh myself every day and I realize that I had to give myself a break.
I will be celebrating my first re-birthday on February 11th and I am so excited! I am more than half way to the goal I have... but I also realized that I am 1/3 the person I was last year already! I have decided to focus on the positive.
I am going to have my friend come to the grocery store with me and on the 11th we are going to take a picture of me standing next to a grocery cart full of 115 or 120 pounds of potatoes!!!! (or however many pounds I have lost by then) Then I will push the carriage/buggy with the weight in it to have a visual/physical reminder of how much weight I was pushing around...... I am looking forward to that.
I also read that it takes your brain up to 5 years to catch up with the image in the mirror. That would explain why I sometimes feel like I don't look like I do and some days I feel like I look better than I do. It will all settle out eventually....
Keep up the great work you have already done!!! You are doing fantastic! You are experiencing what we all have/will and we are here for you! You can get through this!
