I am 3 days post surgery. Still very sore. Trying to keep moving during the day. I've been making the shakes thicker so it doesnt take as long to get down. I am drinking water all day long. I feel full after my shakes and sometimes nausea sets in.  Anything else I can be doing? Walking is slow right now, but I am up and moving around all day. Any advise?

Welcome!

It sounds like you're doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing.

Sip, sip, sip. Walk, walk, walk.

Don't freak out if you step on a scale and you see a gain -- you can gain initially from the fluids they give you in the hospital.

I have my surgery scheduled for February 3, 2010 and my BMI is high. Did the doctor open you up very much and I am so scared but ready. Good Luck on your success!!

Welcome to the loser's bench, Tammy! Keep up the good work! It sounds like everything is going well. The most important thing in the beginning is to stay hydrated. I found if I wasn't well hydrated, I would get more nauseated, and it would be a viscious cycle. Just keep your water close by, and keep sipping.

Tammy...Welcome to the losers bench.. I have not been on the bench too long now.. right a a month..  there is a lot of great company here..

sounds like you are doing great.. keep moving even if it is slow.. walk walk walk to prevent blood clots and sip sip sip to prevent dehydration.. those are the two main things to concentrate on right now.. and healing.. take the time to heal, dont overdo.. you have a lot of time to work on the exercise and protein intake other things that will come with time..

It sounds like you are doing everything right.. I make my protein drink with skim milk 4 oz at a time and they do great.. when I tried to thicken it , the nausea happened to me too.. I drink 4oz of protein 3x a day...mixed as directed..  but worring about the protein at this many days out is not the most important thing so get it in the best you can but don't fret over it..

Remember that everything you take in as liquids counts as your fluids for the day.. 64 oz is the goal but not getting to that amount right away is normal.. do the best you can.. the more you drink the more you will fell satisfied and not hungry and less chances of winding up in the hospital on an IV due to dehydration.. that happens to a lot of people.. so sip sip sip sip sip sip sip..

walking is very important too.. blood clots are so common and they can kill.. walking helps prevent them   that does not mean you have to walk in a marathon.. just keep moving.. after a couple of weeks start on a treadmill if you have one.. but slow progress.. I started out 10 minutes at at time.. 3x a day if possible. for 30 minutes a day... now I am able to do the 30 minutes at one time.. but it takes time to get there.. dont pu**** just remember that walking and moving prevents blood clots so you keep moving..

Merry Christmas to you and a happy and healthy New Year..
