Poll: What do you want to be able to do

At the hospital after surgery, I wasn't allowed to wear the Cpap, but that was OK because I slept sitting up in the hospital and a few nights afterwards when I came home. After that I just never wore the Cpap again. So its hard to say when I actually got rid of the sleep apnea. I might have "needed" it for several months after I stopped wearing it...I just know that now the apnea is completely gone. My highest setting was 8, which is fairly low, but I know the apnea was considered severe  due to how many times I would stop breathing in an hour. According to the sleep study I ceased breathing 22 times an hour.
I never got fully comfortable wearing the cpap and I know that sometimes I would somehow wake up in the middle of the night with the mask off.

Aprilrose - I have a cpap too. I had a sleep study in May that several doctors and techs told me was the worst study they've ever seen - 245 apneas per hour!! My pressure was at 18. After surgery, I had lost about 50 lbs when the high pressure started to feel really uncomfortable so we started lowering the pressure. I was going back every two weeks! One night a couple weeks ago I actually fell asleep without it, so I decided it was time for another sleep study. I didn't even qualify for cpap in the middle of the night this time. Down to 7.5 apneas per hour. My doctor wants me to keep wearing it for another month...but damn, it's hard when I barely need it!!

I didn't see how much weight you've lost, but I bet you can lower your pressure a whole lot if not get off entirely. I'd go in and talk to your sleep doc about it!!

Thanks for the info.  I've lost a total of 145lbs.
My study was about as bad as yours.  The doc said he didnt know how I was even still alive.
The pressure has been lowered to 16 and I'm sure that it needs to go down from there.  My question is, how hard is it to sleep without?  I fall asleep all the time without it now, however, I wake up an hour or two later, and put it on.  I'm just wondering how long it will take to get use to sleeping without the feeling of it on my face, and the noise of it during the night.  Plus, it kinda scares me to think of sleeping without it.
Guess I'll be calling the doc this week and seeing if I can get it lowered more, and when I need to have another study done.
Thanks again...and congrats on the weight loss!!
