Poll: What do you want to be able to do
One more thing..my partner and I were in a store the other day..I was at one end of an aisle and she was at the other, looking for me. She looked right at me and didnt know it was me..it made us both laugh. And I still want to ride a bike. My knees are shot and they dont bend well, but I'm going to try this weekend.
Keep up the good work everyone...I'm 5 months out now...and its all still getting better. OH AND by the way, my hair has finally stopped falling out. I think the biotin really helped. 2500mgs a day. Try it.
Love to you all...and Very Merry Christmas..you are all special people to me.
greetings all!
i thought i'd chime in here since i think i'm farther out than the rest of you at just a few weeks short of my five year surgery anniversary. day of surgery, i weighed 463 lbs, bmi was over 66. i'm 5'10". today, i'm in the normal bmi range at a weight of 165.
and my whole life is different!
i can sit in any seats anywhere -- booths in restaurants are no longer a humiliating issue. airplane seats -- no longer a problem. movies, amusement parks -- all of them are not a problem. i used to be unable to walk any distance at all -- even short walks left me breathless and unable to talk. climbing stairs -- just forget about it. now i can walk for miles with my dog, and i always take the stairs in buildings rather than the elevators - just because i can! i bought a bicycle! i travel for my job, and i always used to worry that if my luggage was lost on a flight, what would i do? it's not like i could go into just any store and buy something that would fit me. now i can! i can shop anywhere!
my point is to say -- hang in there, keep up the good work. it is definitely worth the effort!

Here's one that a few others have mentioned, but it feels great not having to worry about fitting into restaurant booths or chairs with arms.
I can go to concerts and not only fit in the seats, but be comfortable in them!
I can go on carnival rides now too. Before, I wouldn't have even THOUGHT about it.
When I'm riding in an unfamiliar car, it's no longer a toss up whether or not the seat belt will fit me.
I stopped flying on airplanes when I got real big. I was so afraid I'd face the humiliation of being told I had to buy a second seat. I haven't flown since surgery, but I will soon and its great that the only thing I have to worry about now is whether or not my luggage will show up
Oh and that's another reason i stopped flying. If most other people were to find their luggage missing, although it might be an inconvenience, at least they can go to the nearest store and buy some outfits to hold them over until their bags show up.
When I was at my highest weight, I was a size 32 and had almost outgrown that, so I was barely able to buy clothing at Lane Bryant, forget about regular sized stores. Now I can buy clothes anywhere!
I was on high blood pressure pills before. my surgery. Now my BP is around 99/65. My resting heart rate is around 50.
When I was super, morbidly obese I had severe sleep apnea and had to use a Cpap machine. That machine is now in a closet gathering dust and I can finally get a good, unencumbered night's sleep.
It used to hurt to walk more than a block or two. Now I can RUN!
I can cross my legs like a lady!
I'm 42 years old and feel more beautiful, vibrant and healthy than I ever did in my 20s and 30s!
I'm so excited for you Patti...This surgery isn't magic, but sometimes it feels like it is to me.
How much did you weigh when you stopped using it?
Was it hard to transistion to not wearing it at night..like, did it take a while to get use to not wearing it?
Were you able to just stop wearing it all at once, or did you have to lower the pressure a little at a time?
Any thing you can tell me about it would be helpful. I'm so looking forward to getting rid of the damn thing. I too was on high BP meds and am off those with a great pressure now. So I want to get rid of the other hiderance as well.
thanks
April
