scale still not cooperating..
HI Teresa!
You are certainly welcome,,I am so happy to "pay it forward" ! You are doing very good with your walking! You probably are retaining fluids. give it time. sorry, there's that patience thing again! lol.
I do have to tell you though, there is no way I could have eaten what you described with the shrimp, couscous and peas! My major concern for you is that as you stated you are diabetic so you heal slower, now I'm not a doctor or anything and I don't mean to worry you unnecessarily but I would be worried about your stoma (the opening from your pouch to your small intestine) being stretched because of the amount of food you're eating and the lack of sensation that naturally occurs after surgery. I really don't mean to freak you out or anything and I may be totally wrong about this, but it kinda makes sense doesn't it? I know everyone is different, and I may have gotten a smaller pouch than you, idk. Have you asked your doctor how big your pouch is? If it's the 15cc to 30cc size, check out the little plastic cup on a bottle of pepto or cough syrup, how could you possible eat 1/4 cup of couscous and then peas and shrimp! it's gotta go somewhere!
I'm glad you took your measurements! Even tho' there bigger! Lol.! you must be retaining fluids!
By the way, TOM is Time Of the Month!
Teresa, like I said before I don't say these things to scare you, just my thoughts, I have been afraid of not losing too. You will go through stalls and plateaus, not sure what the difference is between the two if there is one but know they are real! Just adjust your thinking to realize you are on a life long journey with a tool that will help you get to where you want to be!
Take Care!
Diane

hello i'm comming to your house and brake that scale ,throw the salt out and get rid of Mrs Dash(please read the lable on the dash bottle) you did not gain the weight over night relax and enjoy the best mircle in your life get one piece of chicken with a small amount of seasoning boil it for about 15 mins. grind the chicken the water is your broth slowly decrease the amount of seasoning you use.+
Hello everyone, my surgery date is March the 18th. I'm having a RNY and i'm scared but excited. I would like to know how many people are schedueled for this date. I stay near Houston Texas. My Dr. is Dr. Gomez\ UTMB hospital. Someone PLEASE give me some pointers.
Thanks for the advice.. I have used Mrs. Dash seasoning for the entire time on my diet.. there is no salt in it.. I do not use salt to cook with.. I do not even have a salt dispenser.. years ago when I used salt it was sea salt. but tha has been years ago.. I try to season with garlic and onion and Mrs Dash.. What it it that you think is bad about Mrs. Dash.. there are a lot of her seasonings and I have almost all of them.. I'm not sure what you are concerned about with them.. They have no salt no calories no fat no nothing.. just 10mg potassium..
I have boiled chicken for the broth.. I froze the chicken for later when I can have it.. it is the thicker soups that are so salty.. store bought ones.. I have made homemade ones and so has my mom and I try to eat those.. cooked with no salt.. I am not used to salt and there are many things I ma eating now that has it and they are so salty I can hardly eat them.. I am using canned vegs. as they suggested this week but I use the no salt added ones..
Hey girl you can't come here and break my scale.. I need it.. I know I know not right now.. I have hidden it away.. .. I wish I didnt know where it was either so I am not tempted to get it out.. I am only going to weigh once a week on Mondays, that is the day of the week I had my surgery so it will be full weeks out each time..
thanks for the help and encouragement..

Thanks for the hugs Peggy.. I hid the scale.. I am trying to be patient.. I can't believe the head hunger I get at night.. I have actually froze my nose eating popsicles trying not to eat anything else.. I think the problem is I follow the diet all day starting early with breakfast and I have dinner about 5pm .. I have an evening protein drink around 8 pm.. but just like now it is 1:33 am and I am still up.. I have not had anything to eat since 5pm.. I have tried all the water and popsicles and crystal light and I am still wanting food.. do you have any sugestions what to do at night..

ive totally rearranged my sleeping schedule that way im not up late nites.. anymore.. i sleep from 11pm-5am now.. i used to be a nite owl as well.. an was hard to stay on schedule.. gettin on a more "normal" sleep schedule helped me alot!! wasnt easy to change a habit i had for many years tho.. but it sure does make me feel better! amazing what a good nites rest can do..
I need to go to bed early.. I try, but I have suffered with insomnia for years.. now it it worse.. I hope it ets better.. I do get up early.. by 6 or 7.. it is hard when I don't get in bed many nights until 2 or 3am..I have sleeping pills to take but I hate them and can't swallow them yet anyway.. I am trying to change the sleep habits but this is harder than dieting..lol...
you are doing so great Peggy.. I am so happy for you for the weight you have lost.. what an accomplishment.. I loved following you all this time.. you continue to be a great inspirtation to me..
Hey guess what.. I am wearing my first ever zip up jeans.. I always had to wear elastic waist.. I can remember you being so happy to even get into jeans.. man that seems like forever ago.. I am in a size 24 zip up jeans.. yippee.. I can't wait to be able to wear smaller sizes..
thanks for all you encouragments I will continue to rely on you in the future.. you keep me going..

I've read that women fluctuate 5 pounds in any given day so you cant really freak out over a pound or 2 even though it makes you feel a little sad... mostly likely it's just that you ate too much salt or your body is holding exxtra water for any number of other reasons.... you KNOW you are losing weight... you are! You cant even help it! I think you should hide your scale completely for 1 week.... it might be good therapy! :)
I remember weighing myself every day with different diets and its not a bad tool but easy to get obsessed. I have no had a scale that can weigh me in years. my moms scale only goes to 300 when I step on it it says error so I am being weighed once a MONTH at my Dr's office... I dont call this ideal though lol I wish I could do it at least every 2 weeks because I think the encouragement IS good for us to see it go down...
anyway hang in there...

Thank you for the encouragement.. I am so impatient.. I thought I would have lost a lot more than 6lbs at 3 weeks out.. I guess I was stumped that the scale said 225 at one week out then I got a bad allergic reaction and the scale went to 234 thats 9lb weight gain in two days.. It threw me for a loop.. then I am now waiting to try to just get that weight back off.. I know it is body fluid retention..but I am not happy with the gain.. now it just wont seem to come back off..
I hid my scale and I am not going to weigh except every Monday.. that is the week day of the surgery so I will see how I am doing at the 4th week out and 5th week out and so on..
I don't think I could wait a month to know how I was doing.. that has to be hard.. can you go to the doctors office every two weeks and just weigh.. if you live close enough.. I did that when I was on the 6 month diet program. I would stop in and just go weigh myself.. It did set the pace for me and made me see I was on the right track..
I lost on the pre op diet very fast and very steady.. I can't wait until it starts coming off now after the surgery.. I know I am not healed good yet because I wake up at night if I lay in one position too long hurting inside.. I just have to learn to be patient and just let things happen in their own time.
