Surgery tomorrow

Hi all! I just discovered this forum, after checking out this site for a year! Good to know it's not only to people under 250 pounds that are having WLS surgery. I was starting to get a complex. Anyway, I am a little nervous. To make matters worse, I had an IVC filter put in last week, and where they put the catheter in, my groin is very swollen, and the whole top of my leg is purple. I went to the ER after speaking to my surgeon, but they said it was just bruised, and I need to just take it easy and let it go down. Problem is, it is causing me added stress because I am worried about recovery from surgery. I won't be able to walk as well as I was hoping. Did anyone have problems with recovery because of being sedentary? BTW, I am haivng the open RNY, so will need more recovery time than laproscopic.

I'll pray everything goes well with your surgery and recovery!

Keep Smiling! The path/journey is worth the results!

Sally, we'll be thinking of you. I'm still pre op, but lots of folks here started very heavy and sedentary and have had AMAZING results. You should do fine.

I'm a nurse and I can tell you that those bruises look terrible, but really don't affect the use of your leg too much at all. Get all the sympathy you can as it will turn many many colors and last for a while. Don't let it slow you down or worry you too much.

Come join us after surgery. This is a very friendly and encouraging group of LOSERS.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers..

I would talk to you surgeon .. I am sure this is something they have had happen before.. It will put your mind at ease knowing it is not just you..

You won't do a lot of fast walking right off the bat after surgery anyway.. You will be sore and hurting for a little while..In the time it takes to recover I am sure the bruising will have subsided..

You can slowly walk and still do just fine.. Son't expect to come out of the surgery adn hop on a treadmill.. It just won't happen.. any exercise is good.. even if it is sitting in a chair lifting arm weights.. lifting your legs.. just any movement .. as long as you don't just become a couch potato you will be just fine.. but remember to give yourself time to heal too. don't overdo..

I am sure you are going to be just fine. and your recovery will be faster than you think.. just be patient and let it happen as it happens.. this is not a quick fix.. it is a life time.thing.. you have a lot of time to worry about how much you are exercising .. not the first week out of surgery..

my prayers that you will be at peace tomorrow.. All is going to be ok...

I'm reading this late, so that means you have already gone in for your surgery and I just know you did great! You won't be sedentary...and the wonderful pain meds will get you on your feet and moving.

Let us know when you get back from the hospital, we have a seat for you on the loser's bench!
