Not so new here, but coming out of hiding!
Hello all! I'm Amanda! I've been lurking on OH for months and absorbing everything I can while I go through the pre op process. I've been considering and researching WLS for the last 4 years. I started gaining weight when I was 10 and have steadily gained since. I had an accident in 2003 which completely took away most of my mobility as time went on and now I'm barely able to walk or do anything without pain. I've tried everything from Weigh****chers, to Atkins, I've joined the gym and been doing water aerobics because it's the only thing I can do without a lot of pain. I've loved doing it and was seeing progress with my body and my weight, but they started gaining again. I'm on medication for mental illness and it's caused me to not only gain but It's almost impossible to lose, add in PCOS, genetic obesity, lack of mobility and I've gotten to be 436 with a BMI of 56, I've lost 11 pounds since July which is a good start, lol
I have a few friends who have been through the WLS journey and it's become my last resort. a close friend had her surgery in May so I get to watch her go through it and I get to learn all I can as we have the same surgeon. The last 5 years have been a struggle health wise, I'm on more meds than I can stand and In May just after I got married I decided to go to a seminar and take that next step. This past week has been a total blessing, not only have I gotten approved for SSI after a 5 year battle, but I got news from my insurance that I've been approved for WLS!!!!!!
I'm jumping for joy and it's becoming very real now. Before it was always just a thought but It's happening! I don't have a date yet as the official letter hasn't been recieved, but I'm shooting for an Early January Date! I can't wait to be a loser, lol

Hello Amanda!
Unfortunately a lot of us ladies here know about not being able to move around without pain but there is real hope with this WLS. Dont know the particulars of your accident but I fell off a ladder i***** and shortly after that accident got over 400 for the first time in my life and by the time I started investigating surgery seriously I was at my all time high of 491! I had a VSG on 10/20 and as of today I am 400.2!!!! Twice since my 1994 accident I was able to diet down under 400 but without any real exercise to back it up I am sure you know all to well we can all lose weight but it is a B**TCH to keep off! Hence, the lose regain plus some, lose regain plus some more that got me to 491. Now I am on the verge of going under 400 for my third and final time. The WLS just gives you the time and control you need. The biggest thing is determine yourself to stick with the rules your surgeon gives you. The first year is the honeymoon phase and is the fastest and easiest we can lose and I for one am trying to maximize that time as much as possible.
Oh also as far as my accident goes, since I have lost 91 so far, even though I have degenerative arthritis among other mobility issues I am already getting up and walking around with way less pain which I am sure will only get better with the next 100 pounds.
This board has a great group of people and we all know each others extra problems that the lightweights just will never get.
