Hi all!  I'm soooorta new here.  I've been an OH member since 2005, but after being denied by my insurance twice, I sort of gave up on the site for a while.  Now, I've taken matters into my own hands and am headed to Mexico for my surgery in May.  I'm scheduled for Cinco de Mayo!  Arriba!  I like to joke that I hope they'll give me tequilla flavored ice chips.

Anyway, my BMI is 59 and I'm holding on hard trying to keep it from 60 before I head down for my surgery.

It looks like the crowd has changed a bit since I was last active here.  Great to see new loser faces!  LOL  I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Good for you.  A woman in my support group in Minnesota went to Mexico for hers last summer and is doing great.

That's what I like to hear!  Are you still a part of that support group?  I wonder who did her surgery.

Hi Brandy! Welcome! I'm new here, too... I am not 100% sure I want to go through with the surgery YET... so in the meantime, I'm trying to follow something similar to a post-op diet.

Anyways, just wanted to welcome you and wish you luck!!

This is a great place to learn all about the various surgeries.  The people here are really eager to answer your questions, too.  Good luck!

Welcome back, Brandy. My highest weight was in June and I ALMOST made a BMI of 60 also. I had to lose 10% for insurance to pay so I'm down to a BMI of 53 - go me. I get banded on Dec 15. I start my pre op liquids this Saturday. I just have to do 10 days of them.

Good luck with your continuing journey.

So, Ruby, I'm curious. What made you decide on the lap-band? As I explained some-what, I'm still in the learning phase of all of this... have made no decisions other than that I need to get healthy.

I've been also toying with the idea of lap-band. However, when I REALLY think about it, I only want the lap-band because it's an outpatient procedure. I have children, and can't spend a few days in the hospital away from them. I figured, that's a really crappy way to decide on which surgery to have. Hah. ALSO, I realized that lap-band is only restriction (where some of the other surgeries are mal-absorbant as well as restrictive). I figured, IF my problem is with ONLY restriction, then I should try to restrict the food myself and work on the emotions revolving around my over-eating. If it's not just restrictive, and in fact my body just holds on to everything, then I will have to look into the other surgeries. At least, this is my own mind set right now...

Did these thoughts every go through your head? What were the deciding factors to make you chose to get banded??

Thanks,in advance, for sharing with me
