New to OH & this Forum. Approved today!
Greetings!
I just joined OH a few weeks ago and have been "lurking" on this forum. I noticed a few other members got the courage to introduce themselves today too and they inspired me to do the same.
Hello, my name is Cindy. I just found out today that my insurance company approved my Gastric Bypass Surgery (RNY) and I get to schedule my surgery on Monday. I'm hoping for an early January date.
I have been trying to learn as much as I can from reading everyone's postings, doing research online and trying to meet other people to share my journey with. I also would welcome any advice or words of widsom from all of you who are "post op". It appears everyone is so supportive and encouraging on this forum and I thank you all in advance for your guidance.
One day, I hope to be as successful as all of you have been with your weight loss. I feel so blessed to have such a great husband and 2 year old daughter - I have so much to live for - and I'm just tired of being tired. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in March (130+ apneas/hour) and I am hoping it will get better or better yet, disappear when my weight does.
I hope you and your families have a very Happy Thanksgiving together. I have so much to be thankful for!
Looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you!
All the best,
~ Cindy

Welcome, Cindy. I've learned lots from this forum and feel ready for my surgery Dec 15. I'm doing lap band, but most of the folks here have had wonderful successs with the RNY. I did what you are doing and read and read and read and still I would find out something new. I love the ability we have to communicate this way.
I have bad sleep apnea too. I have an unusually large tongue (ewwwww gross!) in addition to the morbid obesity. I'm having good luck with my CPAP machine, though. I've had it 8 yrs now and we are best buddies. I never leave home without it.
Keep posting. We like newbies here and will try to support you. Have a nice holiday with your family.

Thanks RubyEllen! You are the first person to reply to my first post! Good luck with your lap band surgery!
I have slept with my BiPAP machine every night since March 1st (when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea). The sleep doctors tell me my sleep apnea is so severe (130+ apneas / hour) that even with RNY, I may still have to use my BiPAP machine the rest of my life. I was discouraged when I heard that but am hoping I may be one of the lucky ones that actually gets rid of their sleep apnea after losing weight.
I hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving too!

Hopefully I will have my date on Monday.
What are you doing to prepare yourself from now until then?
