Discuss: Does the age when you became fat mean anything?
I think the journey is much different, mentally, for those of us who have been fat all our lives. The last time I was a normal weight was the day I was born. I've never known, till now, what it was like living without soooo much extra weight.
For me, I think a big difference is the amount of excess skin and tissue I'm going to have when I'm at goal weight. My skin has had 47 years to stretch out to cover this ever increasing body, so I'm gonna have enough skin to make a new person. But someone who got fat later in life may not have that problem. Theres more elasticity to thier skin than mine.
I can so identify with the poster that said she couldnt remember a time when she wasnt the fattest person in the room. I've always been that girl. And I love that I'm on my way to leaving her behind.
As for my personality...I hope I dont change. I like me..I've always liked me..just not my size. But I guess time will tell, huh? It would be a good idea to visit this discussion again in a year, see where we are.
