Hair loss
When does the hair loss start? After I showered today, was running my fingers thru my hair and lots of strands came out. Is that the start of it? I'm not quite two months out yet. I thought it started later on.
How much Biotin do we take to help with it?
I have a lot of hair, so I don't think I will go bald, but ya never know.
Thanks!
Linda

My hair loss started about 2 1/2 months out. I'm 7 months out now and I think it's about over. It seems like it's growing in thicker than it used to. It was relatively thin when I had my surgery. The new hair is all under 1 1/2 inches long.
I have curly hair and the longer hair that I still have seemed to get curlier to make up for the missing hair that used to weigh it down.
I didn't take biotin. By the time it started bugging me it was too late to start, according to the people who posted when I asked the question.
Good luck!

One food makes you larger, and one food makes you small...
was just discussing this with my hubby earlier tonite... mine started falling out about 2 months out an is still thinning... 8+months out.. i take a multi vitamin that has biotin in it.. but i dont think its enough to make a difference... im debating cutting my hair uber short till it grows back in.. just so its less looking of a mess.. sighs.........
Not only did I loose hair but what hair I had left ended up with a straw like texture. It was awful for a while. I conditioned the heck out of it so I could work with it. I have always kept my hair short but it always looked nice. It seemed to be about a year before it was back to "normal". It was a minor price to pay for the results. You need to take a lot of biotin. It won't help with the loss but it does help with the re-growth I believe.
I had a lot of loss starting at 3 months - I had a TON of hair so I wasn't too worried abotu it, but after 3 mnths of it coming out in clumps, I could definitely tell - not so much so for my friends and family. They just said that it looked liek I'd gone through and used the thinning shears on it. I could definitely tell, and thenthe texture changed to be more straw-like. At this point, I've lost 100 lbs, so I felt it was time for a change anyway, so I went ahead and got a super cute pixie cut - a new look to go along with my new body! I'm seeing the short strands coming in pretty well, now, so I'm hopoing the clumps of hair will soon be a thing of the past. Again, I still have a total full head of hair, just not NEARLY as much as I'm used to.
Like many of the posters, I'm ok to deal with this temporary change in exchange for being so very much healthier. Hair will grow - that's what it does. It's just a reactiuon to the trauma that our bodies go through after major surgery. Good luck!
ps - I hated the Nioxin (it REALLY fades hair color), I used Alterna LIFE Solutions Volume Shampoo, Conditioner, and SERUM - that 3-step is definitely helping. Smells great, too!
