I am fairly new here and am 20 days away from surgeon I need to lose 20lbs or my surgeon will cancel surgery. I am eating protein like my nurse said too and making sure to get plenty of exercise and drinking lots of water.
Do any of you have any ideas to help me out? I am getting frustrated with myself and am not sure what to do.

Thanks Anna

I don't really think it's possible to lose 20 lbs in 20 days, is it? I mean, they do it on Biggest Loser by exercising for hours a day, but it would be really hard to do in the "real world.

I lost pre op weight slowly by having a whey protein shake for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine and apple for lunch and a salad and protein for dinner. The less I mess with food, the less trouble I get in. Good luck to you.
Food is for sissies. REAL women exist on skim milk, protein powder, broth and air.....

I started the process of losing 40lbs since oct 9 and down 20lbs but at first i was on a liquid diet..then the nurse tells me to eat and eat protein as my body will use more to digest it . I see my surgeon on tues for final visit before surg along with lab work and my nut class. i am hoping to be down by 5-6lbs by then I am sure I am thinking insanly but gotta do something he will do the surg if i have lost 35lbs by surg date which is nov 30.

I say go back to the all liquid diet and make sure its high protein.  You should lose enough by the 30th.  I'm praying that it all works out for you nd that your surgery isn't canceled.

The most I ever lost in the "real world" was 14 pounds in one week. But that was because I had food poisoning. I gained 13 pounds back the next week. But I think when I first started Weigh****chers when I was 400 pounds, I lost about 17 in three weeks. I wasn't exercising at all -- it was just diet.

I wish you the best. All I can think is if you really ramp up the exercise --- walk, walk, walk and some more walking. Don't drink anything bu****er and a lot of that. Get your healthy protein in. Minimize carbs as much as you can -- and then only high fiber veggies and stuff. Drink a glass of Metamucil each day. Keep away from salt the last couple of days.

An RN I know told me this: Late in the afternoon the day before your next appointment drink a bottle of magnesium citrate. You can buy it at a drug store. That's what they give folks to clean them out prior to surgery. (I'd bring a banana to your doc's appt to eat immediately after the appointment because the mag citrate and your crazy diet may cause your potassium levels to drop.)

Can you weigh at home at all?

The mag citrate will leave you feeling like a wrung out dirty dish rag. Don't take it unless you really have to.

Best of luck!

I do in home health care and I do wiegh at my clients home as they have a big scale that will wiegh me. I had thought about the mag cit... I have to do that before surg too
I have been drinking lots of water and veggies. I have the next two days off work so me and the dogs are gonna go for long long walks.  thank you for the help so far

You can do it -- I second Peggy's advice because it worked for me too.  2 shakes and a sensible meal.  The shakes I used as a pre-op were Syntha-6 (from GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe).  They have a lot of protein and some carb and a little fat, so I really didn't get hungry when I was using them.

Keep at it, and you'll get there.  Your surgery date will be here before you know it!

Best wishes,
Lesley

I can share what I did, I started this diet called the insuline resistance diet. GOOGLE IT! I stayed away from carbs, and ate like they suggested, only drank water and worked out on a stationary bike for 30 mins a day. Not hard eather, I lost 14 lbs in the first 10 days and contunued to lose more than a lbs a day. It worked for me and it might work for you, just be honest, and dont cheat i garentee it will help you lose fast and you dont have to starve, feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions i would be happy to help!
