Have a BMI over 50 just wondering who has been banded and been succesful in it some people are putting doubts in my head on this website but im confident im making the right decicison just needed to hear it from you who have had done the band successfully
Good luck on your procedure! I had the RNY, but my sister-in-law has had the lapband and has been successful with it. She wasn't quite as big as me, however. Still, the lapband helped her to get control of her eating, and with the help of it and regular exercise, she's reached a size 12! She is very happy with her results and is trim and fit.
I think you need to just go with the decision that is right for you. Many people worry about the more invasive surgeries such as the RNY and the DS, as well as the potential for malabsorption and vitamin deficiencies, and therefore choose the lapband. My decision was made based on my surgeon's data and morbidity/mortality rate, and the long-term success rate. Plus, I have a thing about anything artificial inside my body. It's a weird hang-up, but it's the reason why I'll never get breast implants!
(It's a bummer, really, because I just had to purchase the first PADDED BRA I've ever needed as an adult! Oh, it's sad: 48DD to 34A. Sniffle. )

I got banded yesterday. Swing by the band board. There are quite a few people that have lost 10 in a year on the band. One person posted today that she has lost 80 in 5 months, but that is the exception to the rule with the band.
I think that if you follow the rules and change what you eat, you can do will with the band.

Good luck tomorrow. I'm going for a band in spite of having a high BMI. I'm just more comfortable with it. I like the thought of a little inflatable band around my stomach for the rest of my life keeping me from overindulging. There is no PERFECT surgery. We have to work with whatever we decide to do.
I hope I'm not too far behind you; I'm waiting to hear from insurance, hopefully next week.
