I am 10 1/2 months out. I still do not have an appetite, and I also have a very limited sense of smell and taste.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm never hungry, I eat by schedule just to make sure that I don't forget since I don't have the hunger trigger. I can smell some things, mostly onion garlic and some spices. I can barely smell any fragraces or bad odors. It is just odd!

All of this must be working because as of now, I have never stalled, the weight just keeps falling off...

LOL well thanks! its good to know i'm not alone. I love not being hungry, it is fabulous and i hope it will last forever.

It has really helped me remain disinterested in food and this is a REALLY REALLY GOOD thing!

I didn't have much of an appetite for many months. The way that I knew I needed to eat was usually a headache or increasing irritability. My family really noticed the edginess. I would start nagging everyone! My daughter finally figured it out ! Mom, take a chill pill and eat something!!!
It seems like my sense of smell became more acute, especially unpleasant smells. I like to eat cabbage and broccoli, but the smell of them cooking just gags me, so I tend to eat them out of the house in a stir fry. My sense of taste has changed. Things that sound great in a restauraunt rarely taste as good as they sound or tasted before WLS. Things also taste way too sweet now, and I had a real sweet tooth before. That I have lost a taste for sweet things is actually a blessing to me. I am also one of those people who dumps very randomly, so I am pretty careful about what I eat, especially away from home.

I kinda wish that was happening to me.  I find that my hunger is far too high.  I keep thinking...I thought the part of the stomach they removed had the hunger trigger in it.  Maybe mine was in a different spot...LOL.  Ohhhh to not have an appetite.  I could totally handle that for about a year.....or so ;)

Wannabhealthy45,
Hey just wanted to say I am a VSG'er.  I am only just past 1 week, but I have absolutely no hunger.  I keep a vigilant log of my protein and fluid and cals.  I have not quite gotten to 60 to 70 protein, 64+fluid yet, but it is really hard when you eat and drink so slow and really dont have any appetite whatsoever.  As far as I know, if you had a VSG, then you dont have the hormone grehlin anymore that gives you an appetite.  I think probably you are dealing with HEAD HUNGER.  It was a good 13 months before I could have my surgery due to surgeon's presurgery weight loss requirements for me.  In that time, I found and read and reread many great books from Barnes and Noble and Amazon about emotional eating, psychological effects of WLS, etc.  There are many books out there with many good coping strategies that I think you would find very helpful.  Best of luck on your journey!

I"m 3 months out, and I still dont get hungry.  Every once in a while, I'll feel a growl, but I think its still "head" hunger.  It mostly happens when I know its "time" to eat.  It goes away very quickly.  I dont have cravings like before either.
My tastes have changed as well.  Nathans hotdogs used to be heaven for me.  Now I can't choke one down (no bun).  I just ate a pudding cup, you know, one of those sugarless 60 calorie ones, too sweet.  I'm thinking that our taste buds change due to the drastic change in our diet.  I realized that its been 3 months since I've had sugar..even if I do have spenda in my tea, I've not had sugar.
Another great thing about the surgery is it only takes a few bites to satisfy me.  1/2 to 1 cup is about all the food at one time I can eat.  The days of whole large pizza's are over!
One bad thing is the amount of wasted food.  I never know when something I'm eating is going to make me sick.  One day I can eat it just fine, and another day, it makes me sick.  Or I eat too fast , or dont chew.  When the earpies come on, its bye bye to food for a few hours.  I'm really hoping that the food issue will work out over time.  Throwing up isnt pretty, or easy for me..LOL
Thanks for letting me share.  I hit 286 this week...down from 423.  Isnt that amazing??..coming from the laziet woman in America????
