Another pureed question
If I have some pureed soup or refried beans, how long should I wait after that before I have a protein drink?
Are the refried beans a slider food?
I guess what I'm asking is how much time do I wait before I can eat again or have a protein drink?
And when you're on pureed stuff, do you stick to three meals a day with that? Should I limit the amount I'm taking in with the pureed? So far, I've only had either pureed soup or refried beans, once in the day (just started pureed two days ago). I feel like between all the vitamins, the protein drinks and the water, I'm going to do damage with the pureed eating. This is harder than I thought it would be.
I think I need to see a nutritionist. I saw one a long time ago, but I need to see one now.
I thought I knew this stuff and now that it's my turn experiencing it... I don't know squat.
Thanks,
Linda

When I was on pureed foods, I could handle a third to a half cup at a time. It seemed to keep me full at least a couple hours. I would do the shakes first thing in the am, one in the afternoon, and one before bed. I would usually have some yogurt for breakfast, and refried beans or soup for lunch and dinner. Check with your nut or Dr. S. I know he has a very specific eating plan; much more strict than mine was.
I'm currently on pureed/soft foods. A meal for me is about 1/4 to1/3 cup of food.It depends on the consistency of what I'm eating. I get full from refried beans and they seem to sit in my pouch well. I do have two or three snacks a day so it comes out to about 5 or 6 small meals a day. I count protein shakes as a meal or snack and I don't drink anything for about 30 min. after each meal, but I don't make a point of holding off liquids for a full 30 min. before I eat. That would be just too hard to schedule and liquids go through so fast I haven't had any problems with my drinks making me too full to eat my meal. I usually have a protein drink for breakfast, but sometimes I change it around. Today I had one of those little individual cups of cottage cheese for breakfast. It was 4 oz. and I was able to eat the entire thing taking small bites and not eating too fast. My surgeon has me see my NUT with each food stage change. If you haven't seen one since your surgery, you really should schedule something very soon. They can help you figure out how much you should eat per meal and a food and liquid schedule that will work for you.
