Guess who is on the other side of the loser's bench!

Me that's who!  I finally made it.  I got home yesterday afternoon.  They did do the VSG and I did not get the hernia fixed yet.  I will stick with the plan of getting under 300 when I can have the hernia fixed with a mesh and it will have a good chance of not coming undone at that weight.  There was colon in the hernia as my doc was suspecting so RNY was out of the question unless that wanted to tackle that hernia somehow but I am glad they left it alone for now and gave me the "sleeve"!

I am feeling okay.  Had it laprascopically.  Have 4 port holes and a drain hole.  My worst pain is on the right side and the port site on the right is at least twice as big as the other holes.  I think it is where they pulled out the 85% of the discarded stomach.  Still taking oxycodone occasionally.  It helps.  I got to to do Lovenox injections twice a day for 2 weeks!  Yuck!  Have done 2 so far, and so far have not gotten in one clean shot.  Have a hestitant first drop and then in it goes.  Hopefully after the next couple I will get on the first try.  They do sting.  Maybe it is because I am doing them in my thighs instead of the abdomen because I dont want to go anywhere near that hernia!  Dont want to take a chance of hitting intestine!  Oh No!  Thighs for me.

I had it laprascopically and went into surgery with a BMI of 63.7.    My doc congratulated me on losing so much weight before surgery she said she could see how "mushy" was stomach was!  : )  I guess my surgery weight will have to be 444 because they did not weigh me the day of surgery.  They went with the preop testing date weight.  I had been down to 439 at home about a week before but must of had a water shift.  My posttraumatic edema in my right leg is sensitive to the weather and it did dip down here really fast these past few weeks.  We had snow twice already!

As most here know, I started my journey in August 2008.  Sometimes I thought it would never happen.  But today I can truly say, all good things come to those who wait.  I learned so much in the last 1 year + and know my diet guidelines stone cold and ordered some very informative books online about the psychological effects of WLS and emotional eating etc.  The time was well spent.  And I MADE IT.

Ronda, get those 3 pounds off!  I want you to be on this side with me NOW!  You can do it and I promise you you will not regret it.  I am so HAPPY!  No buyer's remorse whatsoever!  I am not hungry in the least.  Sip, sip, sipping and working on my protein.  So this is what it is like to eat just to nourish your body and for no other reason.  I am in some pain but nothing bad and I am feeling truly blesssed!  PEACE!

Friends are the family we choose for ourselves.

Donna!  that's wonderful news.  Good to be on this side of it, isn't it?  This is such a wonderful thing we've done.  May you have as few issues as I have this last 3plus weeks!  Congratulations.

Congrats on finally getting your "tool".  You've been on the loser bench for a while now.  Dont discount that time that you spent losing weight pre-op..thats very important.  Took alot of determination, and effort.
I have a friend that had VSG, and she's doing very well.  Some ways its better than RNY, you'll have no dumping or malabsorbtion.
Isnt it just the greatest thing in the world to NOT be HUNGRY????  I'm 3 months out and still not hungry.  I love every minute of it!!!

Donna, I'm listening. Lots of cool folks getting their surgery and I don't want to be left out. I'll put some miles on the recumbent bike.

I'm SO GLAD things went well for you. Of course, your disciplined preparation didn't hurt. You are brave to give yourself shots. Keep sipping away. I'll be thinking of you.

Let us know how you are healing. I hope the pain subsides soon.

Blessings to you!!!! Ronda
