Hi! Sorry I haven't been on this board much, I've been hanging on the RNY board soaking up info.

My surgery is scheduled for MONDAY! AHHHHH! 11:30 is go time.

I'm a little nervous and have thoughts of cancelling about every 5 minutes or so...but mostly I'm excited. I've rearranged my whole kitchen and have everything all set up for my new life: vitamins, scale, magic bullet, protein mixes, flavors. I'm all set.

We've been dealing with Swine Flu here the last week - I had it first last weekend and then, being the good sharer that I am, I passed it to both children. I will tell you that what you have to watch for is the fever! It comes on fast and zooms up high FAST! Mine went up to a high of 104.4. My 5 year old son and 8 year old daughter both had highs of 105.8!! It's very scary. My son is well now and I'm hoping my daughter is over the worst of it. My husband hasn't had it yet - he's feeling a little "doomed." LOL

Anyway - that's it for us. I'm around.

Laura,
The flu bug hasnt hit us yet but everyone around us has it.
It is so normal to feel nervous about your surgery. I'd be more worried if you weren't!
That magic bullet will be your best friend for the first few weeks. I rarely use mine now but back then it stayed on my kitchen counter (and I'm the type of person who hates clutter and dont keep anything like that on the counter)
I will be thinking about you on Monday. It wont be long now till you are on the loser's bench. I know it seems scary but think about all of us who have had this same procedure done who are here, happy and healthy and have had zero complications.
Cant wait to hear from you when you come back to tell us all went well and you are doing great!

I know, it helps to remember and read about everyone that is doing great and complication free. I'll just feel so much better when I've awoken, it's all downhill (or uphill) from there.

Laura, you'lll do great as you are all prepared. I'm excited for you. I'm close to submitting to insurance and I have all my little containers too for toting food and drink. I think I might have enought protein powder for ALL of us on this board for a month or so.

Do you have some good reading material and a source of good music to help you relax? Want to buy some lavendar essential oil so it will smell good by your bed or chair? I'm all into aromatherapy these days. I don't know anything about it, but I play with it. I'm just trying to change things up in my life as my OLD life was not getting me what I wanted.

I have a good feeling about your surgery and your success!!!!

Sorry about the flu. Your poor husband probably IS doomed. My son is an Army ER doc in Seoul and he say they have a BUNCH of it there but the people don't really need to come to the ER. He wishes they would do more public service announcements about staying home, drinking fluids, and taking Tylenol. Glad you are on the other side of it. I got my regular flu shot this week and hope the other one comes available soon.

Take care and let us know how you are doing!!

I have a lot of protein powder samples too - we could have a protein party! LOL

I bought a couple of magazines and I have my Ipod and Iphone so I think I'm set. The lavender sounds wonderful - I bet I have something around here...Good idea!

I'm so glad to hear you have a good feeling - I do too! I'm a little nervous - but actually, I think I'm more nervous leaving sick kids at home. My daughter's fever spiked again today - only to 103, but still. I really want my husband to take me b/c he's a very calming influence - if he has to stay home with the kids and my mom takes me, I might strangle her before we get to the hospital b/c she's such a nervous wreck about things as it is - and we have to drive into the city in rush hour...oh my, I can't even think about it. So, really, at this point - leaving things at home and leaving sickie kids is making me more nervous.

Laura, you and your family will be in my prayers tonight and this week. I never got the knack of the IPOD. I have one, but am not good with loading it and I know it's super easy. I should tackle it because I don't want to be old and out of touch.

My Mom doesn't even DRIVE - never has. She's afraid of EVERYTHING: microwaves, garbage disposals, cell phones, people, germs. She's in assisted living now and I go get her weekly for groceries and so on. I have to say I'm a tad resentful as it seems like I have always taken care of her more than she has taken care of me. She was GREAT when my kids were little, though. She's good with little kids.

I hope it works out that you get your husband with you and I hope your daughter's fever breaks soon. I'm sending you a virtual HUG!!!

Good luck tomorrow!  the good news is, since you've all had the swine flu, you won't get it again!  my daughter (age 13) had it last weekend, that fever was truly quick and scary.  She's doing great now!  My RNY surgery was the best decision i've ever made, it has changed my life AND given me a life to live now!  I actually enjoy exercising and being out side, etc, before i just hid.  Keep those +++ thoughts going, you will do great!  lys
