New here

I am new here and after reading a lot of the posts, I wish I had been here earlier.
I have a BMI of 77 and just met with a surgeon last Thursday. I need to lose at least 100 lbs. before surgery in hopefully 6 months.
Is there anyone here with a BMI as high as mine?
I just need some reassurance that I am not a hopeless case.
Thanks!

No one is ever hopeless!!!  I started with a BMI in the 60's.  (344#)  I am down to 194#, at the 18month mark.  I still want to lose another 20-30#, but am happy with  my loss so far.  I am not sure losing 100# in 6 months is a realistic goal, is that your goal or your surgeons?  Be sure to talk with a dietician, so you can get the weight coming off before your surgery!!!   Good luck!!!!

Caroline

P.S.  start getting a lot of water in each day, that will help with the weight loss as well!!!

MY JOURNEY BEGINS...

well...I am also a heavyweight......500 lbs.  BMI 69 or something.....
my three week liquid diet was quite an eye-opener for me.
You have to remember with a BMI as high as yours (I assume your total lbs is up there), you need quite a few calories just to maintain (5500 or so?)

I was AMAZED at my pre-op liquid diet...
Amazed that I could actually not die just drinking 3 protein shakes a day and lots of water/kool aid.
Amazed that I could subsist on 600-700 calories a day and not snap people's head off.
Amazed that I could lose 40 pounds in 3 weeks (I am at 60 pounds in 5 weeks).
Amazed that I was capable of adhering to the regime and not cheating.

It is most assuradly possible for you to do in 6 months...even easier BECAUSE your BMI and weight are so high.

Chin up and go go go.

Thanks for the responses.
I am 600 lbs.
I was at 525 6-7 years ago and lost 275 through diet and exercise, but unfortunately I have gained it all back +.
I don't want to have surgery, but don't have the confidence right now to take it off and keep it off.
My endocrinologist calculates I have a 1% chance to lose significant weight and keep it off without surgery.
So obviously I don't have much choice.
I just can't seem to find the motivation I had before to get started. I saw the dietician yesterday and she steered me away from a all liquid diet right now.
I am very happy to be able to discuss these things with people who understand what I am dealilng with.

You are not hopeless!  That feeling is what got me in to the shape I was in!  I started out the known high weight of 380 pounds, but I am sure it was over 400.  I felt so hopeless.... that there was no use.... but I am here to say YES YOU CAN!  You can do this!   The dietician idea is a good one!  Check at your local hospital or speak with your primary health care provider for help.

welcome to the board! This is a great place.

I know you may not want surgery, but this may be the best option for you. I am confident that if you follow the diet the surgeon gives you, you can lose the 100lb in 6 months. take the time to take time for yourself. You are what matters most! You can do this!

I wish you luck and if there is anything I can do to help support you, please just let me know :)
