Anyone With Lapband?

You know that the RNY bypass has a longterm failure rate of 35-over 50 % (depending which study you want to believe) for patients with a BMI over 50, don`t you? That`s one in 3 or one in 2, which I think is shockingly high. And remember that not everyone who is a medical "sucess" (= excess weight loss of at least 50 %) is happy with the result, because loosing (just) 50% of the excess weight means many of those who start with a high BMI will never get under a BMI of 40, still qualify for surgery and still facing the health risks that come with morbid obesity.

And the big difference to the lapband is that the lapband can be converted into something more effective without too many problems - the RNY can`t. Those revisions that are effective are complicated and risky (full duodenal swtich), and those that are easy are not very effective. The gastric sleeve is a very good alternative especially for those with a lower BMI, and the others should really, really look into the duodenal switch. If you`re too afraid of malabsorbation and bathroom issues, you can get one with a very small sleeve and a larger common channel, which will still give you a lot more malabsorbation then the RNY.

I will just say at this point in my journey I am very pleased and thankful to God for this tool!
