I can't seem to stay on track with this 1300 calorie diet pre-op. I start off with a shake for breakfast and lunch and do a dinner but by the time I get home I'm starving and that's when i screw up. I guess while I'm at work I'm so busy I kinda ignore the pangs and they go away, because i cant eat while I have a customer right. lol Anyways I'm looking for suggestions maybe I'm doing this thing wrong maybe i should do more calories and lower myself to 1300. Maybe maybe maybe I'm just rambling off, but i cant get a good solid week in i get 3-days and then wham I'm back to square one now this is frustrating. I have a consult with a surgeon who i think I'm going to choose as my wl doc on the 29th of sept, I just wanted to get a jump start on losing before i officially become a pre-op patient. Any suggestions will do. My start weight is over 350 i haven't weighed myself in so long i gotta be max 370 maybe less and i want to get that down as much as i an can. thanks for hearing me out all.thepose
My suggestion to you would be protien and lots of it. If you have say half a can of tuna with some fat free miracle whip..it is low in cals and high in protien and the protien will keep you satisfied longer. You may already know that, sorry if I'm telling you something you already know. Also..shrimp, low cals, high protien. LOTS of water..that helps to keep you full.
I wish you all the success and I know you will do what needs to be done :)

If you doc will allow, buy some RTD protein drinks and drink one when you're driving home from work. Protein will help with the carb cravings.
I also used to find that I did better if I ate more volume in the morning and for lunch. I wouldn't get as hungry in the afternoon/evening and I'd have more energy in the afternoon.
Plain steamed veggies are very low in calories and will fill you up. Preop, veggies first, then protein, then carbs.
Drink lots of water. That helped me a bunch, too.
Good luck!!!! It's amazing how hard it is to break the hold that crappy carbs have on all of us.

One food makes you larger, and one food makes you small...
Hey the pose,
When I am feeling totally ravenous and out of control, the first thing I do is make a double shake and drink it down pronto. Lots of protein and a major filler for us preops. Especially made in the blender to whip in a lot of filling air, i.e. VOLUME! Have you tried experimenting with shakes. I dont use chocolate ones much because I like to use vanilla as a base and do many things with it. With a vanilla shake mix in blender, add a cup of any frozen berries. I use strawberries, mixed berries, and pineapple mostly. You can cut up a banana and freeze. Then max a banana shake by throwing in some frozen banana slices. A good snack is frozen grapes. Also, the tuna is a good idea as the other poster mentioned. For a protein kicker, I mix 1 can tuna with 1 heaping tablespoon of mayo with 1 scoop unflavored protein shake powder. Sometimes I eat on a bed of lettuce with cut up tomato or cucumber and sometimes I just eat it out of the bowl. Never any bread! Way too many carbs. If I feel in a bread mood, I will only eat whole wheat wraps that have anywhere between 5 to 9 g fiber per wrap depending on what brand I got. That is my biggest losing weight before surgery advice. Big volume, lowest calories and carbs and highest protein possible. And of course exercise. I just got back from 3 days in the mountains of NH. Lots of walking for me with my rollator. What do I care, I will never see those people again. Dont care what they think!

Thanks Mary and good luck with your surgery. I was suppossed to be 9/29 but I am learning to LOVE my new 10/20 date, so much more time to keep losing preop! Yes, that is so what I want. You get the comfy loser's bench a month before me, so save me a seat, cause I'm fixing to plop down and stay awhile.
