I would say it is probably the caffeine.  I am preop for 10/20 but I have a huge coffee thing and have been doing 1/2 caff/ 1/2 decaf for the last 3 or 4 months getting ready to not have caffeine for a long time if ever again.  So my advice would be to start weaning yourself off it.  If you are drinking 2 cans a day, start doing 1 can and maybe switch to caffeine free diet cokes the other times if it is the coke taste your after or switch to the water, which is good for you (crystal light or all the umpteen flavored waters on the market now).  You have done GREAT with your weight lose but remember caffeine can be an appetite stimulant and that aint good.  Also, there is all that carbonation to consider.  According to my nut plan, I can never have soda ever again and I think I will be able to do this as I gave it up over 6 months ago and dont miss it that much.

So, be strong and start weaning yourself off it.  If you lost all that weight, surely you can stop drinking diet coke if you want to.

Your weight loss is going great--why sabotage it and possibly hurt or enlarge your pouch just for a drink? I know how hard it is to go cold turkey off of soda--but before you take a sip of it, think,"What's this going to do to my pouch? Do I really want that inside of me?"

There are lots of uncarbonated, refreshing drinks out there. I love the Crystal Light single packs that you can put in your water bottle when you're on the go--Raspberry is my favorite, and Hawaiian Punch even has a fruit punch flavor out there that is yummy and no-cal. There are all kinds of different flavors, including peach ice tea, fruit flavors, lemonade, etc. Hot tea with Splenda is really good (Earl Grey is da bomb!), filtered water (it's worth getting used to), skim milk, Kool-Aid with Splenda. There's lots out there!

Don't succumb to habit--fix yourself one of these drinks, drink it, and see how that goes. Weaning yourself, if you can't cut the Diet Coke cold turkey, is a definite option, too. Try replacing one diet coke a day with an alternate drink, and up the no-cal alternates while lowering the diet coke. It's worth a try! Take control, Twinkie!

I had the same problem.  I weaned off.  I started with one a day then one a day plus on one on the weekend then one on the weekend and now none.  For me the problem was more of an old habit.  I love soda before surgery so I think it was strangely a comfort food.  You just have to tell your inner self we don't drink soda is there something else you want.  Also don't buy it helps or if you want one you go to the store and only buy one.
