I have my first appt with my surgeon's nurse!
I am so excited! I have my appt with the surgeon's nurse soon! I am not too sure what they will be doing, but I'm just glad that I have the appt, and that I'm moving on with this process. I still have to wait at least five months while I continue my weight loss process. But since I got that first approval I feel I can wait with (a little) more patience. It's like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
I also have my appt for Oct 12 for my mental health appt. I'm a little nervous about that one. I don't know what all that entails, but I am excited! I am hoping to have the surgery before my 24th birthday in April. That would be mighty fine! LOL
But I do have a question! After the surgey will I be able to enjoy food again? I know at first it will be hard, but in the long run will I be able to eat things like tacos? That's my favorite!

I enjoyed my apponitments. The psych session was very nice. The lady just talked to me and asked a few questions to see if I had a lot of current stressors in my life and how I handled them. We talked a little about the fat thing, but not much. I was with her for over an hour, but it was like talking to a friend. She had a couple of hints for me and basically thought it was a good time for me to be doing this. It was reassuring, but not earth shaking.
It's SO SMART that you are dealing with your weight while you are still young. I wasted a lot of years being unhappy and unhealthy and inactive.

Good to hear that you got your 1st appt & will be seeing Paulette. As for the mental health appt. @ chupick (?sp) be prepared for a very long and boring day. (1) super super long psyc eval @ 400 or 500 questions i think. (2) in between the questions the doc calls you into the office for more one on one questions, and small tasks @ how well you can follow directions/instructions and several personal questions and questions @ what the surgery will do and what you need to do for it to be a success. (3) then you go back and finish up those million and one questions.
If it's S&W (yes I had to go through both mixup with my results/report from Chupick) well, my appt was supposed to be from 9 am to 1 pm...met with a doc and he asked me several questions and decided not to give me the psyc testing since I was well informed of what I'm planning on doing (surgery) his words were "the testing will be boring for you and me both." So I was out of his office by 9:30 am and had time to kill before my next appt @ 2 pm with the business office. Hope this answers your question(s). I have my appt with Symmonds on 10-6 and hopefully I'll get my date!!
Good Luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed

u will go through tons of emotions over the next months.... im happy for ur excitement... an ur patience that was the hardest part for me waiting....... im an all or nothing kinda person.. when i make my mind up i want it now.. anyhow.. u will be able to enjoy food again but differently.. like the idea of a plate of nachos will no longer sooth away a bad day.. but u will be able to eat a few an be completly satisfied. as far as tacos.. i eat them weekly... not old fashioned hard shell tacos.. but more wls friendly version ground chicken, taco seasoning, black beans, low carb whole wheat tortillas low fat cheese etc.. but still same yumminess,, good luck with ur journey..
I'm so excited for you.
I eat tacos -- umm, taco. I can handle one. I love it with loads of meat, some cheese, tomatoes, maybe a little salsa, and a big dollop of plain greek yogurt (the Greek gods' gift to WLS folks). I've never done well with iceburg lettuce, so I avoid that.
We probably eat them at home more now than we did before my surgery.
I've tried them using half a flatout wrap -- that was pretty yummy. But I do indulge in a crispy hard shell from time to time. Sometimes just a little pile of meat and stuff on my plate, depending on how my pouch is acting.
The spicing of the meat is the most important thing -- meat not so important. I mix cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, a little chile powder, tomato paste, some lime juice and some beef broth. I've experimented making them with a mix of ground turkey and tofu -- those are pretty good and the meat is really moist. But mostly I make it with ground beef (not extra lean b/c it's too dry). In fact, ground beef is almost the only beef I can handle right now. I don't do well with a carne asada taco from my local Mex restaurant -- yet.
However, you need to follow your doc's/nutritionist's recommendations for incorporating different food into your diet over time. (My nutritionist sez protein first, then everything else in moderation. Some nuts are a lot more strict about carbs.)
Best of luck with all your preop stuff!!!
