Any words of wisdom to share?
If your surgeon has a good regime follow it to the letter. If they don't then find another surgeon. I personally feel that your surgeon should provide you with a minimum of 12-18 months of post-op information and if they can't then you should find another surgeon if at all possible. One other thing, it is all your responsibility to learn and know every single thing you can possibly know about dietary issues and vitamins and minerals and so on. REMEMBER, YOUR DOCTORS AND SURGEONS CANNOT BE WITH YOU ALL THE TIME SO YOU ARE YOUR BEST DIETITIAN!

How far post op are you?
14 months and 2 weeks
In terms of cups of food, how much can you eat at each meal?
I can eat a 3 oz piece of dense protein and vegies and some carbs. That was gradual throughout this journey
Do you eat three meals a day or meals throughout the day?
I eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks, the snacks being in the a.m. before lunch and before I leave work for the day
Any digestive or other problems?
earlier out foamies but that was due to not chewing enough. Now it is constipation which I've started taking Benefiber and an occasional Colace stool softner
Are you steadily losing weight?
The first 6 months I consistently lost each week--now it is more like lose 5, gain 2, lose 3, as my nut termed it, stairstepping..
How much have you lost?
190 pounds since my pre-op diet which started on 6/18/08.
How often do you exercise?
I built myself up from 1-2x a week water aerobics to 3-4x a week water aerobics, Fitlinx weight machines, cardio like the elliptical trainer and recumbent bike and just last week embarked on Zumba.
Problem with loose skin?
upper thighs, panni, arms are not too bad because of weights but mostly the panni
Following a low carb regimen?
I eat a good amount of protein and my carbs come mostly from vegies and fruit and whole grains.
What supplements do you take?
BA Multi capsules, BA Calcium capsules and chewable Iron with C, B-12, Vitamin D,
How much water do you drink per day?
64-100 oz a day with some water coming from herbal tea or sugar free cider..
Has you hair fallen out?
It started 3 months out, stopped, then started at 9 months, and is now growing back
Any regrets for having the procedure?
only that i waited so long to do it
Any words of wisdom to share?
Don't get discouraged--the scale may not cooperate but it has taken me many years to not be obsessed with the scale. As an example, it took me from July 9th until now to lose 10 pounds to add to the 180 I lost by that point. It does slow down but I'm finding it gets harder because the weight does not fall off like before and I have to work harder for what I do lose. This is a journey and not a race.

I advise not to think of this as a diet. Make changes that you can live with and keep telling your self you are successful at controlling your life and how you live it. I have approached this as a life style change since I made the decision my life was going to be transformed.

Very interesting pop quiz! I like this idea!
How far post op are you?
12 months, 3 weeks
In terms of cups of food, how much can you eat at each meal?
3 oz lean protein + vegetables, usually, so probably between 1/2 cup and 1 cup.
Do you eat three meals a day or meals throughout the day?
6 meals throughout the day. Usually 3 bigger & 3 smaller. Sometimes I even add in an extra protein shake, but I burn nearly 4,000 calories every day so I am not too worried.
Any digestive or other problems?
Constipation (relieved with a daily dose of Benefiber), some heartburn (relieved with Prilosec)
Are you steadily losing weight?
Yes. It has slowed down, but it's definitely a downward trend.
How much have you lost?
172 total
How often do you exercise?
Every day. I do Zumba 4 to 5 days a week, Power Step 2 days a week, and every day I get at least 5,000 steps although most days I get at least 10,000 steps.
Problem with loose skin?
My panni is unbelievably bad, as are my thighs. Both will definitely need plastics. I'll probably get my boobs & arms done too, once I'm at goal.
Following a low carb regimen?
I do watch my carbs, and try to keep them as less than 30% of my total calories, and only from dairy, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
What supplements do you take?
Celebrate multivites, Calcium Citrate, B12, Vitamin D, Iron
How much water do you drink per day?
Usually around 96 oz.
Has you hair fallen out?
It fell out a little between 3 to 6 months, now it grows like crazy because of the biotin in my vites.
Any regrets for having the procedure?
Only that I didn't do it sooner!!!
Any words of wisdom to share?
After about the first six months, your weight loss will slow down, and it is purely up to YOU to make it happen. You need to find exercise that you enjoy and commit to a healthy way of eating. Unfortunately, there are lots of other post-ops out there who will tell you what you can "get away with." I hear these things all the time -- like how I can drink if I space it out just so, or eat M&M's if I space them out over the afternoon, etc. I don't do these things though, because being a heavyweight, I know that this surgery has got to work. Those are unhealthy behaviors that caused me to be SMO, and I don't want to go back to them. I WANT BETTER FOR MYSELF.

Any words of wisdom to share?
Drink, drink, drink. <-- especially on weekends
Avoid salt before important weighins.
If you're getting frustrated with the scale, put it away for at least a week.
If you're going to snack, snack on protein. (Hey, if somebody knows how to make protein popcorn, let me know!!)
As a newbie, don't post about stuff you haven't personally experienced. It drives the veterans bananas.
If you're preop and trying to figure out what procedure you want ask your questions in the different surgery forums. Sometimes posting on the main board just causes pain. BMI>50 is okay as well.
