Bacon=bad

Okay okay...so my Dr. said that bacon was NOT on my "can eat" list.  It's not protein..its all fat.  But its bacon...BACON!  I love me some bacon.  Here's what happened.

My partner had a rotten day at work.  She's a school teacher and the little heathens were worse than usual.  So I thought I'd make her a nice dinner.  She's a bacon lover as well.  And up until just now, I've been able to cook, and eat with her, and not eat things I can't have.  I made her a nice bacon sandwich, cheese, the works...and the bacon smelled HEAVENLY.  Soooooo..you guessed it, I ate a bite...then another bite...I tell ya, it was better than sex!  After 2 bites, I stopped.  See, I have self control...LOL.
20 minutes later, I was hugging the trash can, praying to God to make it stop.  For 45 minutes, I heaved and heaved trying to get that bacon up.  So my hard learned lesson?  Listen to the Dr...for she knows of what she speaks..lol.

Now on to some good news.  I found Wendy's Chili!!  In a small container its 190 caloires, and 14grams of protein...I was in heaven.  I ate about a cup..everything stayed down..no foamies..no nothing.  It made my day!  I also found sugar free jello pudding, cheesecake flavor...100 calories for the entire box, make with skim milk.  OMG..its sooo good.  Before surgery, I would have eaten the entire thing in one sitting, but I'm eating it 1/2 cups at a time.

I'm still having trouble getting in all the protein.  I"ve tried Nectar and Chike, both not terrible, but I can't figure out what to put the powder in to make it drinkable.  I tried a smoothy this morning, it was a disaster.  I used strawberry protein powder, one scoop, and ice...in a blender.  Too thick..so I watered it down a bit...still too thick..so more water..eventually I had like a 1/2 gallon of protein shake!!!  Now how am I suppose to drink all that to get 25grams of protein?????  I've put it in yogurt as well, and thats not a bad way, but I'm burnt out on yogurt....any ideas?

Hope yall all have a great day and a wonderful weekend.  We're heading to the beach for a little R&R tommorrow.

Hey Aprilrose, I know what you mean about the BACON!  I just love the smell of it but honestly if I ate it now I know it would give me major heartburn just like that candy bar the other day made me sick.  There is cooked bacon in my fridge right now!  My guy eats about a pound of bacon a week.  He makes it and puts it in the fridge to snack on!  UGGHH!  And he is one of those people, 5'10" and all of about 165!  So upset several months ago when he finally had to break down and buy 34 pants because his 32's were too snug.  He is too funny!

Sorry you got so sick, I hear people mention "the foamies" and it sounds dreadful!

I love the SF pudding though.  I just had made the cheescake pudding last night.  I also love the banana cream.

As far as the protein, have you tried getting the unflavored protein powder because you can put that in anything.  You could put it in the pudding, in sour cream, mayonnaise, soup, just about anything like that you use.  Also with coffee, I am doing the 1/2 caff/1/2 decaf right now and I put the Inspire carmel latte or cinnaomon cappacino in my coffee in the morning so my morning coffee is a 30 g protein drink.  Last week I got a new flavor of Inspire to try which is chocolate peanut butter fudge.  Yum!  Didnt try in my coffee, but I might.  If you want to check out the Inspire stuff I am talking about, it is at bariatriceating.com.

Have a great weekend.  I am going on a mini vacation next weekend to the White Mountains of NH.

Foamies bring a whole new level to vomiting.  It's worse than dry heaves.

What wonderful ideas for the protein powder, never thought about mayo, and sourcream..or the pudding..what brand do you use, and where do you get it?

I use the Inspire unflavored protein powder that you can buy at bariatriceating.com.  They sell their stuff in pouches that have I think 14 servings and they are like $20.  When you order at least $75 of stuff from them the shipping is free.  I have ordered from them twice and get the stuff pretty fast.  The inspire is a kind of thin protein and for some reason of all the ones I tried I just am hooked on this one.  They have very interesting flavors, I have tried just the 3 I mentioned so far and like every one I tried so far.

Hey, April! I am about 2 1/2 years out and I can have small amounts of bacon. I usually have 3 pieces of pre-cooked bacon (about 75 calories) shredded into small pieces on top of my lunch salad. It's a big salad, with lots of fiber, and I chew and chew and chew until each bite is almost liquid before swallowing! That's key. For the longest time, I could not eat ham, though.

As for protein ideas, I used to mix 2 scoops of caramel chocolate or vanilla flavored protein powder into 8 ounces of skim milk, because both the taste and the volume of protein shake was getting me down. If you mix it well and let the air bubbles float to the surface and dissipate before swallowing so your pouch doesn't get too much gas in it, you can sip the shake slowly and usually be done in a couple of hours. It's 56 grams of protein, so a pretty big chunk of the daily protein requirement.

Sorry about the bacon gagging. There is a product called Bacon Salt that comes in flavors and some of it is LOW salt. Amazon has it. I just ordered some. I thought it might make eggs taste more interesting. Most of the reviews on Amazon were glowing, but a few people didn't care for it. I can also see using it on veggies.

I discovered unflavored Unjury powder this week. Add it to your favorite Crystal Light flavor and then add some ice. VERY refreshing. It is truly UNflavored to me and doesn't mess with the texture too much.

Glad you are getting to the beach. Have fun.

We actually have the bacon salt now.  Found it at a Costplus WorldMarket...we love it, use it on everything..and we also found Alder Smoked salt as well..
Thanks for the protein suggestions..I'm gonna try from unflavored.  Where can I get Unjury, besides on line?

I got the Unjury online, but some of our private local drugstores carry it and one of the chiropractors. I think the  unflavored is going to be a staple for me.

I'm glad you like the bacon salt as I just ordered 4 bottles in various flavors. I get in SO MUCH troulble on Amazon. It's the reviews people write that make me want to try stuff.

Can you mix the SF pudding with the 0% Greek yogurt and then a little bit of light Cool Whip to lighten it up? Major protein.
