Day One of Pre-Op Liquid Diet

I'm on the pre-op and so glad to be two weeks out from surgery!   On Sept. 30, I'll have the surgery.  I'm hoping I'll loose a bit on this to get me started.  Today has gone well, so far.  It is just a matter of doing it.   I know many of you have done it and I've done optifast twice.  I figure if you can do a liquid diet for 5 months, two weeks is easy.  Right?

Being busy is helping a lot right now.

Mary you are so right. I did optifast for many months so I am really not dreading the two week liquid diet..

I am glad that you are not having a hard time the first day. Each day after this gets easier.. Yes just keep busy and keep your mind off of food.. Think about the future and what it promises for you...

Kudos to you for your determination..

Keep it up.. You go girl.. Only two weeks to go until you get a new life for yourself..

No, with mine, its all the packaged liquid protein and calories.  I'm supposed to consume 900-1000 calories and 90 grams of protein per day.  They had a pre-packaged menu you could purchase, but it included things I wasn't interested in, so I opted to put my own together, which you could also do.

Mary, I'm doing liquids in order to lose my last 9 lbs. I was restless and agitated the first 2 days, but woke up feeling kind of light and good today. I'm drinking chai tea with Splenda and a little light Coffeemate at night and that helps as it tastes SO good. I think I bought an organic Tazo chai tea bag. YUM. Come to think of it, it may contain caffeine, so I don't know if it's allowed pre-op. Shoot, there's so much to think about.

The trick is to have SOMETHING to look forward too. I'm also enjoying Crystal light in the traditional orange flavor, which tastes like Tang.

When I can't eat, I download and print out healthy recipes. I put them in page protectors and then in a notebook with dividers. I'll NEVER cook all those things, but it lets me be involved with food without CONSUMING any of it. Every once in a while I cook from my spiffy recipe notebooks. I have 2 notebooks by now.

GOOD LUCK and we want DETAILS of how you are doing post op.

Oh, good!  I just bought some of the Crystal light orange.  I also bought some sugar free popsicles.  I like tea, too.  I can have a little caffeine for now, but going to wean off it several days before surgery.

I still can't get a straight answer about the pre op diet that my physician group uses. They keep telling me I will see the dietitian again. I'm curious to know what I'm dealing with.

Good luck with caffeine withdrawal. I need to start working on that. I drink 1 big mug of coffee a day and the chai at night now.

I LOVE chai tea! I sometimes make it with a little nonfat milk, and Splenda. I also love Earl Grey tea (thank you, Captain Picard) because it has a yummy, spicy flavor that refreshes without overpowering.

So how's it going? How are you feeling? It's getting close.  I started the liquid diet today, and it wasn't horrible.  It was great either, but doable.  Let's see how I feel in a ciuple of days when I have used my jaw muscles.

To be totally honest, I'm beginning day nine and I'm still doing ok.  I do get sick of it, but it's not that hard for me.  I think its the idea that It's temporary and I am going to lose weight.  After a week I weighed myself and was down 11 pounds.  They told us most people lose 10-20 pounds on the liquid diet.  I think I'll be on the high side of that.

I get tired of it, and even want to eat.   Last night my husband grilled chicken and had green beans and tomatoes and cukes - nothing ever looked better - but I wasn't really tempted.  When I get tooooo sick of sweet, I drink a cup of chicken boullion or a small can of tomato juice - but I've only done that a couple of times.  I will be glad when its over, but it really hasn't been that hard.  It seems like I tire more easily, though.

Best of luck to you!   Let me know if I can help - we'll be on the "losers' bench" together in no time!!
