Shopping while shrinking

This is a problem that I NEVER thought I'd have. I decided to try to not buy a lot to new stuff until I stabilize, but I did spring for a bunch of tank tops and 2 bathing suits on sale at WomanWithin. I figured I could wear the same skirts, big shirts and sweater for a while yet. I mostly shop catalog and online, as shopping in person tires me out easily.

So I ordered the tank tops based on the fit of the same item that I had in my closet in a few sizes. The last ones I bought at 450# were 6x, and I knew they were too big. The 5x's were a little big, the 4x good and the 3x too short and and more body hugging than I like for work. So I ordered 4x about 2 weeks ago.

They arrived last Friday and are too big! What a hassle returns are.

Moral of the story - measure yourself, don't guess.

It's so annoying to clothes shop when big. When they do have super sizes in the store, they're usually ghastly. I've bought so many of these because I needed something for a special occasion [job interview, wedding], worn it once, wa****dry clean it, and then put it in the closet until two years later I shake the dust off for a trip to Goodwill.

When you order online, the sizes are all funky. Or the material is so cheap, thin, whatever, you wa**** twice and it's almost unwearable. If it cost 7.99 that might be understandable, but nothing super size sells for 7.99 unless it's really awful (missing a sleeve, day glo orange with brown splotches, smells funny or something). More like 35.99 on sale. And a lot of those look great in the picture, but when you get it --- ewwww! Then you have to decide -- do I really need a skirt bad enough to keep this fugly thing that looks like my dog barfed on it?

Naturally, I bought a wonderful 5X ultrasuede blazer last fall I love but I can't wear anymore. I gave that to a gal at work today, just so I could visit it occasionally. (grin). [Getting it altered wouldn't have worked because there's some embroidery on it.]

Sigh. Let's all hope that in a couple years none of us will have to buy this crap!!!

It seems like whenever I order clothes online, they never fit! They are either too big or too small. But luckily some of the stuff that was too small last year is now fitting loosely. I love losing weight.

I can't wait until I don't have to buy big clothes anymore. It's gonna be LEGENDARY.

Me too! I love shopping for interesting stuff in thrift stores, but there's nothing in my size, so I buy for my step-daughter instead - LOL! Once I can buy for myself, she's gonna get a lot less treasures.

The whole shopping thing excites me.  I have shopped online forever it seems like - nothing fit me in the stores.  I can't wait to shop sales instead of having to buy the expensive stuff and wear it to death!  LOL

I agree with mary... it excites me too!  I cannot imagine shopping for smaller sizes!!  I had to to laugh at mojave_patti's post!  SO TRUE!
I just cannot wait to not have to look for the LARGEST size!!! To not say.. Oh that  is cute.. then damn... not my size!

For those that are experiencing the.. hard to find clothes because your shrinking phase... I am envious!!! How exciting.. just another awesome moment(s) for you!

I think for my intermediate large sizes it'll be eBay -- to buy and to offload. You can get great deals there. I can't imagine "off-the-rack" shopping in most stores.... Today is one of those days that I think the surgery can't happen soon enough.

I shop the Fashion Bug sales and Catos and oh boy doi hit the consignment shops..

Before i would never try anything on,but i do now because i dont know how they will fit..

The girls in my family cant wait for my hand me downs,and they are coming pretty regularly now..
