A newbie comes out of the shadows
I have finally stopped lurking and have decided to become active here. While I have been poking around OH for several months I only stumbled on this board 2 months ago, and I finally feel comfortable to introduce myself. I guess I will have to set up all my stuff, but for now I will just introduce myself here. I am 34, I have been overweight since about 2nd grade. I never wanted to consider surgery and avoided it for many years because I am scared of these types of things. I started considering it about 1.5 years ago and went to an information session. Then my mother suffered a stroke, and as her primary care giver put most everything on hold til things stabilized. But it was extra motivation, besides being the heaviest ever at 354# and 5'5". I went to another information session in May and loved the surgeon and the program and decided I was going to do it. Between insurance and my surgeon it was required that I complete 3 month of dr sup diet, 2 psych session, 3 nutrition consults, and 2 physical evals. As you can see I have a surgery date set, a few (very short) weeks I will begin a brand new journey. Deep breathjs I can do this! I look forward to taking this journey with you all.

Congratulations and Welcome to OFF! I remember the day I got my date, I was so excited I couldn't talk! My surgery is next Tuesday, I can't believe it's here already. Your time will also go faster that you expect. Read everything you can about life after surgery, the more we know the better we'll do!
Welcome. Hope your Mom is doing OK. Good for you for heeding the warning and deciding to do the surgery and hopefully avoid medical complications in your older years. You are nice and young and have a great future ahead of you.
There are lots of hoops to jum through, aren't there? My office mate just had 2 infusions of some medication and it cost $17,000 per treatment. Insurance paid without a whimper, but they fight us on this weight loss stuff. I guess they are looking at us statistically.
Glad you decided to chat with us.
