My highest BMI that I know of was 58.9-- yikes!  That said, I often feel a bit different from people who are starting out around 250 or less.  My BMI at 250 will be a 39.2!  I can't imagine starting out there!

So, for that reason, I'm excited to get active on this board!  I just found it :)  I think that, while I'll still enjoy my other boards, I might have a bit to learn from people here that I couldn't get from people who aren't in the same general vicinity that I am re: obesity!

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Yep, I made that BMI too. Welcome to the board. I suspect most of us on this board know the joy of breaking a chair or two, of not fitting in a booth at Taco Bell, not fitting in an airline seat, or a car seatbelt. My son got a fancy new car that dings if the passenger is not buckled in and I could BARELY buckle the thing even sucking it in and moving the seat as far back as it would go (thus squishing the legs of the person in the back seat. UGH.

Then there's the humiliation of trying to find clothes to cover the huge belly or butt. When my Dad died 3 yrs ago, I was totally traumatized by staying with him in the hospital the final few days and my sweet little mother, who NEVER expresses an opinion, said,  "I want you to go out and buy all new clothes: new socks, a new dress, new shoes, and everything, so you will look nice for the funeral." UGH.

We've all had our moments, but we survived. I feel like I'm on an upswing emotionally. I recognize my problem and that it is serious and not easily overcome. Statistics are NOT in or favor, even with surgery, but I feel that I've learned some things and I value myself these days, so it's all good. I  believe the surgery, and the people who come with it (including folks on this board) will help me succeed this time. So, jump in and we will enjoy hearing from you!!

I totally understand- I LOVE the Seahawks but refuse to even try to go to a game because I'd be humiliated if I didn't fit in the seat and I can't stand up that long.

Re: statistics- I know that they aren't in our favor, but numbers are numbers and I'm a person.  I'm ready to see my life change and I'm ready to LIVE.  I know that surgery won't make the issues with food any easier but I'm excited to have this tool to help me get healthier!

Seems like there are a lot of folks from the Pacific NW out here.  Lucky!  I seldom find fellow Western NY-er's on OH.

Start: 487 lbs (8/07) Lost 81 lbs pre op on South Beach. 406 lbs at surgery (6/08). 179 post op, by 2011. I  lost 308 lbs. Gained 98 while pregnant (2012-13) lost all but 25. My goal is to be 179 again!
