20's + Loose Skin?
I know we are all very different, and I can only know what my body will do when I get there, but I'm curious if there is anyone else whose BMI was over 55 and who was in their 20's when they had surgery. My surgery is almost exactly 6 weeks before my 28th birthday. I tend to have pretty good skin- never dries out- but I do have a lot of stretch marks- esp my arms, stomach, and breasts- and I'm just wondering what to expect. Many say that before 30 you tend to respond much better.
I'm hoping that plus my good skin will bode well for me. Then again, I have probably 125 pounds of fat on my abodomen alone. I just wonder if anyone can tell me their experience?
Thanks!

i was 32 when i had my surgery.. i have alot of excess skin more n more daily or so it seems.. but compared to having it filled with tons of fat... i'd chose the excess skin.. any day!! i still have alot to lose so theres more excess skin to come... its just something u have to wrap ur mind around... healthier body excess skin.. out weighs FAT firm skin in my book... Good luck with ur journey.. what a great birthday gift for urself...
I've been reading a lot about this and, from what I've learned, there are so many factors involved. Genetics play a huge part, as they do in all things. But, also, how long you've been overweight, how much you have yo-yoed, age, etc.
I've read that pre-menopause you have a better chance of less loose skin. Also, I read that if you do weight bearing exercise when you are losing, you have less loose skin because the skin has muscle to grab onto? I've also heard that massaging your skin everyday helps.
Just things I've read - I haven't tried any of those obviously since I'm pre-op - but hey, you never know. :)

I am 38 and 1 year and 2 months post rny, down 220lbs....I was deathly afraid of looking like a deflated elephant....but more scared of dieing from being heavy...
I feel so great that the skin is just a fact of life....I do not have tons of it....I carried every ounce of weight I ahd evenly from my head to my toes...my worst areas for loose skin are my upper arm(bat wings), those bother me the most, I will have surgery on those....my boobs look like ferrets....but I never had nice perky boods, even young, they were always under my armpits...my belly is livable, in jeans it is pretty flat could use a tummy tuck but is no worse than any 38 year old that had a couple of kids...and the back of my thighs and rump is a bit saggy, but again in longer shorts nothing to worry about, don't think I could rock a pair of hot pants or daisy dukes, but I am just happy to be rockin size 16 anythings over the 34's I wasn't rockin....

Hi Tami,
What a great post! I've often wondered the same thing. I'm 27 as well and will hopefully have the surgery done right around 27 1/2. I talked to my doctor about this and he brought up a really good point - one of the main reason's I'm embarking on this journey is to safely have kids over the next few years. I'm telling myself at this point (now this could all change!) that if I get 10 years out with 2-3 kids and we know we're done with kids - then I will reward myself with the plastics to take care of the extra skin. No need to be looking into a tummy tuck when it'll be stretched out a few more times between now and then (we hope anyway!). So if you think there is any chance of having kids - I'll give you the advice of my doc - hold off on the tummy and boobs for now.

Well yes it is true ladies...........I am 27 and I have hanging skin. I have lost almost 80 lbs....and yes it is there. I dont think it is as bad as it could be, but I also work out 5 days a week. I have bat wings.....and my thighs jiggle like jello. LOL!! It bothers me a little, but I was prepared for it. No one else seems to notice....so it may just be me. I even asked my bf if he noticed, and he looked at me like "what are you talking about?"
You just have to be dedicated to working out, and drinking lots of water. You will have some extra skin, but you can get that taken care of later if you need to.
