Did anyone have to have a Vena Cava filter ?

My surgeron stated that I would need one of these for about 2-3 months.

Other people have told me that the Vena Cava filter is suppose to be permanant....

Whats your experience?

I had one placed in the day of surgery and it is my understanding that it is there forever. I have had no problems with it.

Good Luck

I had my vena cava filter put in feb of 08.
I am so glad i did from being so immobile i passed a clot and was told the filter saved my life.
I am not trying to scare you okay
Now the surgeon and i talked about it and decided to leave it in til any surgerys where done.
I had a lot of weight to lose so we knew i was looking at skin removal.
It doesnt hurt anything and honestly i forget itis there.
good luck

I had my filter placed 2 days before surgery and removed one month after.  They were pretty adamant I get it removed.   I wonder why everyone has had such different experiences.   Kristin

I had mine placed right before surgery, and removed 2 weeks later.(after a scan discovered no clot) My understanding was if I had a blood clot, it would have to remain in place forever.
Good luck
You'll be fine.

I had the filter put  in   on Monday Aug 17,09 a week prior to surgery. I was told by my Dr. that I could get  it removed after 6 months if I wanted to. It was inserted in my groin and I was not expecting that, but it was almost painless .

I had mine put in the day of my surgery. He went thru my neck vein and it wlll stay in for life. Because I have a history of blood clots. It is safer that it stays in so in case I get one it won't get to my lungs and kill me. So it is a great tool to prevent a blood clot from spreading.
