hard to seat

I had to go to the ER and while waiting for them to call my name I stood in the corner because my wide hips couldn't fit in the chair. How embarrassed I was! I went into the triage room and whispered to the nurse"can I have that chair with no arms"? she carried the chair out in the waiting room for me.. now I'm more embarrassed because everyone knew that I couldn't fit in the chairs in the waiting rm.I think in places like that they should have some double seating so that us hippie people can sit comfortable.

I agree with you. The world is made for a very narrow range of sizes. It would be nice to have some acknowledgement that people some in various sizes, ESPECIALLY in healthcare settings. That being said, don't be embarrassed. Be proud of who you are.

I took a night class at a community college and couldn't fit in the desk with the little attached side writing surface. There was a folding chair at the back of the room, so I drug it forward and turned a chair/desk backwards so I could write on it. Nobody seemed to mind. I felt pretty accepted. I think it's mostly how we feel about ourselves and people reflect that back at us.

Soon the hips (in your case) and the belly (in my case) will be SMALLER!! I wonder what it will be like to fit in stuff again....

:(   I am hard to seat too.... I cant even tell you how many times I've been totally humiliated at restarants when they try to seat us in places where I KNOW I wont fit... but usually I can head those off fast enough the realllly bad ones are when I decide to give it a try...     *hangs head in shame*  after the last time that happened I decided Im not going out to eat anymore.  I thikn that I am ok with myself too often perhaps but then something will happen and make me realize that I am very very large....  I'm not sure that the way Ive been is good because it resulted in me continueing to get bigger...  grrrr

all that being said... it kinda makes me mad that a hospital wouldnt have armless chairs available and/or larger seats.  I'm sorry!

I couldn't agree more.  If you go to the ER or DR you are usually sick and don't feel like standing for the hours you sometime have to wait.  There should be an area for us--and other folks should have to keep their narrow asses out of it!

I feel your frustration! Our ER's have the double seats, but they are usually being used by someone who's laying down so it's tough to sit and be comfortable when you're already not feeling well!
I have that problem at one of my Dr's office, I sit on the very edge of the seat and it's not only uncomfortable but embarassing! As if we aren't VERY aware of our size, lets add panic and embarassment because we can't find seating! I've become a home body because of my mobility issues, a back injury as well as my weight make it a challenge to stand.
I know better things are coming though, I'll be SO glad when the day comes and I can fit into ANY seat ANYWHERE!!

I'm so sorry that happened to you.  I have avoided some places now b/c I don't fit into the seats or I have to smuch myself into them and it's so uncomfortable.
