where is your confidence
My confidence in my physical appearance improved greatly with this hundred pounds lost although I am no where near my goal. This confidence has impacted other parts of my life - I am no more competent at my job than I was before WLS but, I feel more confident because I generally feel better about myself...
But truthfully, I have come to believe that confidence is a mental construct more than it is a physical one. Confidence is an "act as if" thing. If you act as if you have confidence then people tend to treat you better and that in turn actually builds your confidence. Act as if you were as confident as you wanted to be each day even if you aren't feeling it. Try this as an experiement - I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the outcome.
Best wishes,
Rhonda

To be honest, my confidence hasn't ever lacked. I'm so lucky that way. I was raised that I could do anything I set my mind to do, so I forged ahead. A heavy teen and obese young adult, I stayed in school, finally getting through graduate school to my masters degree. I have done lots of public speaking and training all over the country. I'm told by others I exude confidence.
However, as a 57 year old women with a BMI of over 60, I have been discriminated against during my career. My most prestigious position was obtained when I had lost 100 pounds on optifast in the late 1980s. That postion was lost due to layoffs in 1998, and I have been underemployed since. I'm looking forward to overcoming the obstacle that my weight presents!
I have to say that the place confidence suffers is that I feel I have to do better than others, be more clever, etc. to be accepted because of my weight.

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY! Working on the next 25. Then I'll tackle more...

If you don't mind me asking, what was your degree in and what was the prestigous job. Also what did you publicly speak on? The reason I ask is I am in school and just got my Assoc degree and working on a bachelors. I also want to do public speaking on domestic violence, since I was a victim of 19 years. Thanks for your help.
