How many times did you...
How many times did you go clothes shopping before reaching what was at least acceptable or goal? I ask here necause we are the ones that have the longest journeys to goal. I am down at least 115 lbs thus far and my old clothes are literally falling off of me. Yesterday I went to buy a belt because my pants kept falling and rolling the waistband wasn't working. Well, now I feel guilty because instead of spending a couple dollars on a belt, I spend $200 on three pairs of pants, size 26, big smile, down from a size 32, a few bras and four shirts in size 22-24!!!!! I was so excited I could fit it, I just started buying it up, Plus there wasa sale. Doesn't help that my husband was there cheering me on. Anyway, I wanted to wait until my birthday in November to buy new stuff, especially since I won't be in this size for long. I still have 150lbs to lose to meet my goal, 170 for medical goal.. How many times will I be buying new clothes between now and goal? I wanted to try not to spend too much money on new clothes that I might not be wearing for long. Any suggestions?
I was thinking about this yesterday... I am pre-op but was fantasizing I guess about losing the weight. Thinking if I lost 100 pounds I'd still probably just be in a 24 or 26... I am a 32 now and when I weighed 100 pounds less in college that was the size I was wearing.
If your old stuff lasted that long your new stuff might last a minute too... shirts I would think would last longer since they don't have to be fitted... and belts are hot right now too... so if you have a waist... unlike me... you could always cinch them in at the waist with a belt.

I feel ya. I am in the same situation. I call it "the good problem" -but problem it is. I've gone from a 28 almost 30 to 18/20. I'm not at my goal but I like how I look in clothes again. My budget is limited but I have had a lot of luck shopping at the "The Avenue" and occasionally Lane Bryant. I end up buying a pair of black pants - feels like every six 2 months - but they have been on sale I haven't spent more than $10 on any one pair. I wear my black pants with different tops to work most of the time. Its the best I can do right now. My big necessary spluge was $75.00 for 2 bras - I am well endowed and to have some bras that actually fit is well worth the $36.00 a piece the bras cost. The difference between wearing an ill-fitting bra and one that fits is amazing. I look 2 or 3 sizes smaller up there...
I'm finding it helps my self-esteem greatly when I wear clothes that look nice and fit. At my highest weight, shopping for clothes was a necessary evil and would depress me for days after. I feel blessed that I have been able to find some very good sales. Clearance racks are my friends - I found an incredible red dress for $10 on the clearance rack at Lane Bryant last week. I am amused because anyone who knows me knows I hate to shop generally. Weight loss has loosed my inner clothes horse. I am however, waiting until I get to goal before I invest in anymore business suits - no way am I spending $100 + on outfits I'm not going to be able to wear for awhile. Funny, I've actually lost about a half a shoe size.
Best wishes,
Rhonda

I Feel your angst on this. I am currently down 162 lbs since I started my weighs journey and am so fed up with my bra straps showing that I broke down and went to look for one new top yesterday. I had a discussion with one of my thin friends on Friday and she had encouraged me to treat myself to one new thing for an event I have coming up. Well I went to cold water creek looking for a jacket filly expecting that nothing would fit. I have been wearing 32/34 and well I got the best surprise of all I not only fit into one of the jackets that I picked out I fit into a 2X and it looked good from both the front and back. So exciting! I was actually crying as I left the store I was so Happy!!!!
I have also done a fair amount of "shopping" through my skinny clothing in my closet and have a number of pats, skits and dresses that I can start wearing again. I have also contacted a girl Imet in a support group who has some clothing she is willing to pass on. I am hoping that will supplement me for a bit. I too don't want to spend a whole lot on clothing right now but the splurge yesterday was great. I have not felt this good about myself in a long time so if $100 can make me feel good ---it is so worth it.
So I say treat yourself time to time to something new! And see who you can find to get some hand me downs from.

We have a local WLS support group that does a clothing exchange!! I got really lucky, my close friend is three months out and I'm getting all her bigger clothes that no longer fit! I have yet to have surgery so I'll have clothes for every stage in my Weight loss. I forsee a lot of comfy pants with drawstrings and tshirts in my future!!
I think buying new clothes should be exciting for you and make you feel proud of what you've accomplished! If your hubby is cheering you on....go for it, lol
A lot of people suggest going to thrift stores like Goodwill because they can find really good deals and sometimes really nice clothes without spending much at all! Sales are good, Wal Mart is inexpensive and can be useful while you are losing!
