How did you decide what your "goal weight" would be?

I think it should be about health.  Is the goal weight you picked for yourself a healthy weight?  I certainly don't think that we need to be at an ideal weight to be healthy, but to still qualify for wls surgery would not seem healthy to me.  We SMO or former SMO are capable of losing more weight that we realize.  What worked for me in the beginning was making mini goals.  Good luck and keep up the good work.  Loris

I went to a BMI calculator and looked at what weight I would have to be to have a "normal" BMI of under 25. Whether that's actually attainable, I don't know. It feels very far away but we'll see.

I sort of randomly picked 150. My surgeon did not give me a goal weight. I have never been thin, so I have no idea what 150 might look or feel like for me. I'm sure I will adjust that number (either up or down) as I get closer. I may hit 180 and be happy there - who knows? Right now, I'm just ecstatic to have seen less than 250 on my scale, and anything under 225 seems completely surreal.

I chose 200 because I figured that was the most attainable number.  I'm only 5'3" so a normal BMI is 130 I think.  I doubt I will ever make it to that point.

I just want to be healthy and be able to not have my weight limit me in doing anything.

I began my journey at 361, but I was 320 at my surgery date.  I'm now just under 300 which was my first mini-goal.  That makes me think my 200 goal might even be too easy, but I'll reassess at the 6 month out mark and see if I still feel the same way.

No one during my process has ever discussed a goal weight.  The focus is entirely on living a healthy lifestyle and making better life choices.  The only numbers that are important to them are protein and water intake.

I'm almost 5'4" (LOL), but have always been large-busted and had muscular legs (even before I was obese), am over 40, was oiverweight for a YEARS, and started with a BMI of 56, so I used a normal BMI for someone 5'4" tall (145 pounds) as my goal weight.  You really need to take heredity, bone structure, amount of muscle, and age into consideration.

I am just under my goal weight, and I probably have another 5 pounds of fat left in my thighs, and a small amount in a tiny "pooch" around my belly button and in my boobs (but MUCH of my boobs are now excess skin), so I'm sure that 140 is attainable (only 3 pounds away) -- and I am still losing 1- 1.5 pounds a month at almost 2 years out -- but from a psychological perspective, it was important for me to set a realistic goal and then anything beyond that was "gravy" so to speak.
