Please share, I am New!
Hi, I am new to the website and also the the Message Board I have been thinking about weight loss surgery for many years, and I have now finally got the ball rolling, I am still in the begining stages I have just found a surgeon and I am attending my first imformational meetings next week, after doing a LOT of reading these past few months I believe VSG is best for me (I have a very high BMI) and hope this will be a step in the right direction. Any info you can share with me would be great the pro's and con's I want to be well informed!! I look forward to meeting new people and learning a lot. Thanks for your time!
Hi. I'm in the process, too. I hope you have great luck. I'm looking forward to a new life. I've gone through most of the hoops required by my surgeon, and should have a date soon, I hope. Just a couple things left before that.

Hi! I'm new to this board too. I started the process back in June and my surgery is August 17. My BMI is 55. My doctor and I decided on the RNY. Everyone has their different opinions on which procedure is best though. I was lucky my insurance approval went really smoothly. I called them a lot though. lol I just really wanted to say good luck!
Hello, good for you in making that important first step in making a decision to pursue a change to your life. I can only speak from my own frame of reference and that is as a person who was >450lbs and a BMI of 68 at the point I decided living that life was enough. I took over two years to make the decision to have surgery...thought I could do it on my own and in the mean time gained more weight. Well life intervened and gave me a catalyst to make the decision to have surgery. I had the RNY procedure and it has been one of the best things I have done for myself. that is not to say that everything has been smooth. My surgery went well (laproscopic) but was in the hospital for over 5 day's as my intestines did not wake back up right away and was not passing gas/moving bowels etc. I also ended up with a secondary infection from the Catheter and was nauseous for about the first 10 weeks constantly. But, today I am healthier, happier and able to live a more active life and I am only 5 mos out. I can only begin to imagine how much richer life will be when I get closer to my goal.
As far as the right procedure- discuss the options with your Dr. and weigh the pros and cons of each. From the RYN procedure the side affect of not feeling hunger is a huge benefit in my opinion, it has really helped me to learn and understand the difference between HUNGER and Emotional needs. I was an eotional eater, ate when happy, sad, stressed, excited, celebration, depression...you name it. Now I eat because I know what my body needs to keep functioning and find better ways to deal with and address the emotions that I have been "feeding" all of these years.
Best of luck to you! Congratulations on step 1.

Hi!! I had VSG July 7th and my room mate had RNY two days later. I chose VSG because I didn't want the malabsorption issues and dumping. I did want the appetite control and inability to overeat. I was also self-pay so the RNY was a bit out of my price range. My surgeon was a big proponent of VSG and has seen better long-term success with the VSG. Anyway, I can't eat as much as my room mate in one serving and he has to take a handul of vitamins the rest of his life. I'm happy with my Childrens chewable and some calcium. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me. Good luck!
Welcome to OH. I am new to this forum but have been a mamber of OH for years. It has took me 5 years to get where I am .Still waiting for insurance approval... . I am so happy for you that you have decided to make a better life for yourself. A healthier one.. I am having the RNY surgery. But I can advise you on one thing. Listen to your surgeon and the nutritionist and do exactly what they say. If you do that you will be fine. Reading is good. I just finished two books one is called Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies.. Believe it or not it has a lot of great information in it. The other one is called "A Lighter Look At A Heavy Subject". It is writen by Dr. Terry Simpson. It is great too. I learned so much from that book. It is not a joke book. The lighter side is his writing style.. He is so easy to read and yes you may chuckle a lot while reading but you will learn so much. I got mine on Amazon and one on ebay. Well worth it. Now I really feel I am informed better than I was. ..
Any questions you have just post them here and I am sure someone will more than likely be able to help you..
