Question from a fresh DS

Hi all.

My name is Theresa.  I had my DS done Friday, July 10th.  My highest weight was 445.  After the pre-op diet, I weighed in on Friday morning at 434.5.  Everyone at the hospital was pleased at how well I did.  It was lapro, and I was up walking later that day.  They sent me home Saturday.  I've been working on walking around my house, trying to find a comfortable sleeping position (I've concluded there isn't one), getting my water in, crushing these nasty meds and upping my protein.  Tomorrow I call for a followup with the surgeon from my surgery.

Here's my problem:  My right side, about where the pants sit at a natural waist:  It HURTS.  Mostly internally, and sometimes it goes away for a tiny bit.  Other times, like just now, I had to get pain meds just to make it to the bathroom, and pulling my very loose pj pants up hurt to even have the cloth against my skin.  Is this normal?  I'm pretty sure, looking at the diagrams, that that's the side where most of the 'work' was done, so it would hurt more, but ...man...  NOT this much.  I don't know whether to push for a sooner appointment (only to be told it's totally normal and I'm just being silly) or to go with the flow and hope it gets better as time goes on (only to have something really wrong... but I don't know what it could be.)

I'm expelling gas, having BMs (THOSE are nasty), urinating plenty.  Externally, I don't see anything wrong, although I don't get a great look at it, admittedly.  So I have no idea what's going on, or, like I said, I'm just being silly.

Thanks!

Theresa

To put your mind at ease, call your surgeon's ofc and ask if the pain is to be expected.  If it is, then you are ok.  If it isn't, they will have you come in.

I did get to talk to a nurse when I made the appointment.  She said it was normal with the gas and the torn/stretched muscles.  If it gets worse, or I start in with a fever, I should call to go in sooner.  Otherwise, I see them next week.  Thanks.  I really think writing it all out helped in the talk to the nurse, too.
