Hi Everyone,

I'm curious to know if many people that start with a BMI over 50 have the sleeve and if so, how it's working for them?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give :)

I started with a BMI of 51.  I am 3 1/2 months out from surgery and have lost 65 pounds.  I am anxious to see how it goes long term, but am very happy so far.  I feel like the sleeve is easy to adjust too.   I am on a "regular" diet now and very happy, I just eat less.  My daughter had a BMI of 59 and lost fast....over 100 pounds in 4 months.
Hope that helps.

Hello I was sleeved June 3 2009 with a BMI of 58.  So far I have loved my sleeve everything that has comes with it. I have not had one day of nausea or stomach problems.   I can see myself using my tool and being successful due to the work I'm putting into my health and you can too.

My BMI is almost 80 and I am dong so well -- Love my sleeve...

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

My BMI was 51 plus when I had my sleeve done just over a year ago.
I have lost 135 lbs and went from size 28 to size 6.
The sleeve allows me to feel full faster and stay full longer.  I can eat about anything albeit is small (normal portion) amounts. I do not feel deprived or even like I am dieting.
I am just using a tool that helps me make better choice about what I eat and how much of it I eat.
I have been able to maintain my weight for about 2 mos now with no major problems.
Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?

Notice all the sleeve people are brand new. Long story short, there is no long term data for the sleeve. People who have the sleeve, will eventually get to the point where there is very little restriction, and if they don't diet they will regain because they will be able to out eat the sleeve. My opinion is that if you were able to diet, you wouldnt need WLS, and you defintely wouldn't have a BMI over 50. All long term studies show that the DS is superior WLS for the SMO.

PS i know about the sleeve because DSers have the sleeve...it's part of the DS. Don't believe the "lie" that you won't ever be hungry...ghrelin or not, you still get hungry post sleeve.

She asked about the sleeve Scottie...Not DS.

I started at BMI at 50..down 78lbs. Not pooping profusely either (That was for Scottie).
Enjoy eating anything in moderation.

                                 16 lbs lost pre-op!

Right and as a DSer I'm fully qualified to answer questions about the sleeve, because part of the DS is a VSG.

Now you are just a few months out, congrats on losing weight, but the reality is that with a BMI of over 50, you have a VERY high chance of regain without malabsorbtion.

Scott

PS for the record i do not poop profusely...once in the morning, sometimes once in the evening..much better then when I was preop, 500 lbs, and ****ting 6 times a day.

I had the sleeve done at the end of February,  I have only lost 25 lbs.  I have been in a stalled state now for almost 2 months.  I very jeolous of the people who have lost a lot more in such a short time.  I am still dealing with diabetes and though My sugar levels have been lower, I am still taking insulin and that itself has a tendency to keep weight on.  However, I too have found it difficult to deal with the lost of my coping mechanism.  I truly am an emotional eater.  I know you are thinking that I have already stretched out my pouch, but that is not the case.  I can only eat a little more than a fistful of food.  However, I am hungry every 2 to 2-1/2 hours.  I am eating 5 mini meal a day.  I feel like I am grazing all day.  This too is hard to deal with.  I am glad I had it done, and I look forward to losing more.  I just need to relax, the weight will come off.  My BMI was 54.    Thanks  Chyan
