Discouraged
I am really struggling with my own expectations..... Not only is my hair falling out and I am trying to fix that but.....
I will be 5 months post op July 11th and I haven't even lost 70 yet! I feel like I am not loosing like I am supposed to. I feel like I am going too slow... I got to the gym 3 sometimes 4 times a month.... I did walk on the treadmill but... after my third Synvisc injection in my left knee I had a reaction and two weeks later I still can't walk on the treadmill... but still... I really thought I should be down by 100 at my 6 month check up.
Am I setting myself up for dissappointment? Am I asking too much? It's just the way I feel today. Discouraged and sad....

Your body is probably just trying to hold onto the weight...thinking it's starving. It WILL happen. Hang in there. I freaked when my hair fell out too. I cut it shoulder length and have kept it short like that since. It looks fuller that way. It stopped now. I am 13 months post op. Don't look at anyone elses progress and judge yours. We are all different. You are doing GREAT! Walking is HARD after not being able to. I could barely move at my high weight and the treadmill almost killed me. I would do just one commercial while watching TV at 1st. Then sit till the next break and try one more. Then I would try two and progressed to the whole commercial break. After a while I could get to 10 minutes! then a whole Tv show (resting during the commercials at that point) after that I took my walking outside to a park with benches every 100 feet. I walked, sat, walked. Now I am totally able to take long walks and it's womderful! It takes a long time and alot of hard work. Keep at it. Even if you can do 1 minute on the treadmill it's an awesome start!!!

I"m pre op but have bad knees also. I can ride the recumbent bike and burn calories that way; not as many as the treadmill, but it's something. There is also another machine I can use sitting down that moves my arms and feet forward and backward. It actually makes my knees feel stronger. Can you do that for a while?
I think your weight loss is amazing. I'm sure you can feel bones that you didn't used to know you have. Hang in there and march to your inner music.
Marcia,
Where was it written that you should lose 100 lbs in 6 months? I missed that. Your body did not put on weight at 15 to 20 lbs a month every month. Lets see if it did and you were say 30 years old, 30 x 12 =360x16,666666 that would make you about 6000 lbs at age 30. Might work for an elephant but not a human. We all put on and take off weight in spurts. You are being too harsh on yourself. You are doing great. Remember this is a journey, not a sprint. Stay off the scale it will be your worst enemy. You will know you are losing, and getting healthier, by size. The way things fit and the way you feel. Most of all you will see it in the things you can do. I get weighed only once a month at the doctors office. Yes, there are many times that I wanted to have lost more by a certain point, but the real object here is getting healthy. Stay the course and your body will lose the weight at a healthy pace.
Hugs,
Nick

i think you're doing great! you know, i don't think there's some specific formula of lbs lost per month to which we must conform. everyone is different -- we all have differing health situations, starting points, etc. i, myself, did not keep track of where i was each month, so i can't even tell you how many lbs. i'd lost at 6 months. i can tell you i started at 463, and today i weigh 165, and have been maintaining that weight for nearly a year.
also, i do know i was not into serious exercise until the past 18 months. my advice to you is to follow your doctor's plan, exercise as you are able, and try to feel positive about the new life you are heading into! oh, and don't obsess over that scale!
all the best to you.

Trust me when I say I really know how you feel, but I have 4 suggestions for you.
First, hang in there because you are almost 70 LBS healthier.
Second discuss your concerns with your nut/surgeon.
Third try aquatic aerobics. You get a good work out, burn a lot of calories but with less stress on your body.
Fourth keep a diary of what goes in your mouth and weigh it (if you are not already). This really, really makes a difference. Because not only are you tracking your calories and protein you are tracking carbs, sodium, fat, sugar etc, and there might just be too much of at least one of those things. Try WWW.My-calorie-counter.com. to journal your food.
Good luck,
Margie

If you cant, go to the gym. Then find a swimming pool somewhere and exercise in the water. Just get out of the house and start getting a little bit of sun it will make you feel better and that is a good thing. Even an old swimming hole in a creek or a local pool. Just wear a big tee shirt. You can talk sometimes to the pools owners and can talk about getting some private time. And water exercise class is best.
