i decided on RNY, because i had an aunt who had it done years ago an has kept off her weight an no longer has any of the co-morbities she had pre-op...
i've had no complications so far...
im almost 4months out..have lost 64lbs since surgery..
120lbs in the last year since starting my weightloss journey..
as far as tips... u have to choose what surgery is right for u.. dont stock up on any one particular protein powder taste changes drastically after surgery.. highly sensitive.. do stock up on sf popsicles, pudding, jello, yogurts, cottage cheese...broth, (go by ur surgeons list) those were mine...things u can have nearly right away.. u wont feel like going out to store for a week or so..maybe longer.. get some disposable (reusable) little glad or ziploc containers.. 1/2 cup an 1cup so u can prepare a few dishes at once an just grab heat an eat.. i use toddler utensils.. it helps take for taking smaller bites.. food scale (comes in handy) good luck with ur journey.. welcome to board..

Welcome! One year ago, I weighed 439. Now, almost 10 months after my RNY, I am in the 200's and I can't even tell you how good it feels that the first number on my scale is a 2, and I never have to see that 3 or 4 again!
Definitely do your research. I had originally thought about lap-band but then realized that with my high BMI and developing diabetes, I needed the full RNY gastric bypass. I looked at DS, but decided it wasn't for me. I did not look at VSG but I know there are people who are very happy with it. I have never regretted this for a minute. I haven't had any complications, but I am religious about my protein, water, vitamins, and exercise. I have lost almost 150 lbs. now, my diabetes is gone, my asthma has improved so I was able to give up some of the medication for it, and I have more energy than I have had in years.
Good luck with your consult!

Good Morning everyone,I know that I'm late with the thanks you and the tips but i just got home not too long ago from doing a 16hr shift,I really appreciate all that advice and tips that you guys have given me.I feel like I'm on the right track.I've researched my surgeon and his background and his success rate.He is the chief of biatrics at the hospital that i work at.I was thinking about doing the VSG,I think that would be the best move for me from all the research that I've done.At the same time i want to talk to the surgeon and see if he agrees with me.I guess i will have to wait until the 29th to get my answer to all my question.
I went with DS because I like the VSG stomach but I wanted the superior weight loss of the DS and so far, so good. I started at a BMI of 61 and I'm not even halfway to goal and already I feel practically svelte and my clothes are all 18/20 and 22/24 - a far cry from the 32+++ I wore a year ago. The VSG is appealing but I don't think it's been proven very well yet and since I had a lot to lose, I wanted the most powerful surgery.
