Newbie
Hi everyone, my name is Suzy. I am happily married for going on 14 years with 5 wondeful boys ages 11, 10, 7, 2 and 1. I am very overweight with a bmi of 63. I have been overweight as long as I can remember. I am currently trying to get the process started for me to get w ls . My ins will pay but I have to have 2 six month weight loss attempts documented first. So I have to call my dr and try to get this all started. I have lost around 50 lbs since my last son was born but I have again stalled and am atually fluctuating back and forth in my weight. I am so hoping this works for me, I am really tired of being overweight and want to live a much healthier and happier life for me and my family.

Hi Suzy,
Welcome!!!
It took me almost 3 years to get all my ducks in a row to get my surgery. For some people it took longer.
The preop diet/"weight loss attempt" time is a great opportunity to do as much research as you can about the different surgeries.
Good luck!!

Hi Suzy,
Im Kelly. I am new to this board too. I spend most of the time on the Ds board. I am getting the Duodenal Switch surgery in August. I chose this surgery for multiple reasons.
the two main reasons is the amount of excess weight loss and the better odds of keeping it off.
the other thing I liked was that the stomach functions more normally than the RNY so you do not get dumping. Some people need to feel that if they eat sugar they will dump but for me that will be bad because Of what I am trying to persue as a career. I want to own a dessert shop and do not want to have to rely on other people's tastes on what tastes good.
other websites you can find info on is
dsfacts.com
or
duodenalswitch.com
hope this helps

"Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before." ~Jacob A. Riis
