hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself and ask a ? or two.  my name is AMy, and i just recently had rny on may 26th, so i am three weeks out.  I am doing really well, but just wondering how much food everyone else is eating around 1 month post op?  I went to see the nut and she wants me to add in snacks in addition to the 3 meals to boost my protein (bc i cant really stand the protein drinks, and i need extra to allow my wound to heal).  so today I ate much much more than i usually do.. i had the three meals and three snacks.. now the food im consuming is very small amounts, like 3 smaller shrimp, 1/2 string cheese. but it sounds like so much.  so my total intake for the day was only like 600 calories, and 50 grams of protein..(but ive planned for tomorrow to get more protein in, today was not enuf.. i need atleast 60 grams per my nut)  is this normal?  how many calories is everyone else consuming? thanks in advance to all.. and i hope everyone is well : )

Because my BMI was so high (83) my dr did not want me eating for the first six months after surgery to optimize my honeymoon period.  I relied on protein shakes, yogurt and cheese in those first few months.  At six months out I was getting anywhere between 300 and 600 calories a day.  I took advantage of not being hungry and when I did eat I made sure it was protein rich foods.  I am 14 months out and now get much more calories than this but I slowly transitioned food back into my life.

Make sure you are getting 1-2 servings soft veggies and 1-2 small pcs fruit a day and the rest protein.  Tuna fish or canned chicken (packed in water) are good sources of soft protein.  Try to get 3 coffee cups full of 25 g protein drink in too.  I know it seems like a lot, but your body will think it is starving otherwise and you won't lose weight...you'll stall.  I've lost almost (4 lbs to go) 100 lbs. in 2 1/2 months this way.
