Not a newbie but feel like a lacky :(
Thank you for the ideas! I tried the powder in the coffee and it wasn't bad at all! I also bought me up a few cans of tuna and chicken, so I'm gonna get back on the protein wagon full force. LOL

Beans, beans, the magical fruit......! Seriously, I eat them nearly every day. Chili, three bean salad, black bean soup, refried..I love them. I buy canned, but if you take the time to cook the dry beans, they are really cheap. I like to put a pouch of tuna on a lettuce salad, that's good stuff. I also make turkey meatloaf. I buy 1 pound tube of frozen ground turkey, and add one egg, one can of black beans, one can of corn and one cup of salsa. Form into small loaves on a cookie sheet. It seems kind of runny when you are trying to make the loaves, but it firms right up during cooking.
There are a lots of good suggestions for cheap protein, but I would like to address your lactose intolerance. If you do yogurt everyday for three months you should completely lose your lactose intolerance. The bacteria in your gut for lactose ingestion are the most easily killed of all your gut bacteria and it takes awhile for them to gain a foot hold again. As the months pass you will be able to tolerate more and more dairy.
I was in the hospital for 3 months at one point and antibiotics during that time. I too lost my ability to digest lactose. But the yogurt gave it back to me (treats colic in Babies too, I learned this when working for a pediatrician ). They now give patients milk with bacteria in it to prevent lactose intolerance, at UNC anyway.
