Was the Nurse Just Pacifying Me?
Hi All,
I have a question, I keep reading about people who have loss 100++ in 6 months with similar start weights as myself. Yet I have only lost 97 Lbs in nearly 8 months. The nurse at my Drs office said older people lose may lose a little slower..........Is anyone in the same boat as me?????? Or was the nurse pacifying me. I exercise with aquatic aerobics 5 days a week from 45 min to 1 hr. I admit I have only been exercising this rigorously the past 2 months. I generally get my protein in but I do struggle with getting over 800 calories a day.

Hello!
I had RNY when I was 42 and I weighed 440. I now weigh 225 - 230. I can tell you that I don't lose weight as easily as I did when I was in my 20's. I think it's a function of metabolism, hormones - just like men lose weight faster than women.
I know it's easier said than done, but please be careful about comparing yourself to others. Each person is different. All you can do is follow the directions of your surgeon, take good care of yourself and let nature take its course. You are doing great - look how far you've come in eight months. Yes, I had lost "more" weight than you at 8 months, but I still weighed more than you do right now! Heck you weigh ONLY about 20 more pounds than I do right now!!!
Hang in there, you'll get there - we are each different, we're on the same journey, we just take different paths.

I am truly in the same boat. I have lost a total of 101 pounds since my surgery last July. I talked with the nurse at my Bariatric Center and she said that I am within 5 pounds of where they would want me to be at this point. I also read a study that said that people who lose a little bit slower tend to keep their weight off.
Good luck and remember that this is YOUR journey. Comparing yourself to others tends only to lead to negative feelings..

It is a relief to hear it is not just me. the weight is coming off gradually because i am now down 99 LBS, since last week. i realize people are different but we all need some kind of gauge, but perhaps i am using the wrong people as a gauge, especially if they are a lot younger than me.
