Hi Everyone
I went to my doctor last Thursday. The doctor thought i needed Surgery clearance because I was going to see Dr. Whipple about my weight loss surgery.  I did not need clearance yet because i have the six month wait  because of my insurance...I am in month 3.   Besides that ...they did an EKG in the office for a minute or two .....My EKG was not normal......Has any one else had this problem...I now need to go see a caralogist for a work up to clear me.....What kind of test did you have?   Thanks for any information you have

Hello there....I don't know if this will hel*****t...but I waited until the last 2 weeks of my 6 month wait because I was dreading a stress test...I knew that was a requirement for my surgeon...I had a two day one with the iv and afterwards was told that I had a low ejection fraction.....well for like 2 weeks I thought I was dying.....and I had an appointment to see my regular doc....and she noticed on the report from the stress test that a radiologist read it instead of a cardiologist....and she wanted me to repeat the test or do an echo with contrast.....so I did....and they said it was a false reading because the radiologist used the standard measurements for a man and they did not take into consideration my size and breast tissue....so I was worried for nothing.....and boy did i worry.....try not to worry until they repeat the test or do a stress test....or echo....u will get better results with those...or more accurate....i hope this helps!!!!!

our PCP did a EKG on my hubby and had him worried sick because it was abnormal.... we had to spend $300 to go a cardiologist who looked at the same results and did an additional EKG too and said he saw absolutely nothing wrong in either one..... argghhh!

So hang in there and get a second opinion.....

An abnormal EKG does not neccesarily mean heart problems, and it also doesn't mean it will always test abnormal.

That being said, if you need cardiac clearance, get it. You don't want to put yourself at more risk than you need to, its better to be informed of any problems before hand.

I had to have cardiac clearance even though I was in my 20s - just because my surgeon felt that at my weight it was needed, plus I had high blood pressure from age 21. I ended up having to have a heart cath procedure and an IVC filter inserted. The heart cath was because I was too heavy for the treadmill or bike for a regular stress test.

I have craaaaazieeee EKG's often.  (That weird heart thing)  I didn't have any problems getting clearance for a small operation a couple months ago, they knew all about it.  I had the same thing happen at the cardiologist...he still cleared me.

I hope everything'sOK for you, try not to get stressed out.
