Losing toooo fast?

Howdy All,

I had my RNY on April 3rd. After my pre-op liquid diet I was 366 pounds. The hospital staff told me I was severely dehydrated when I came in. After 3 1/2 days of IV fluids I gained back about 9 pounds.

I am now 345 almost two weeks after my surgery. I saw my doc on Monday and he was okay with my progress.

Am I losing too fast? I'm struggling to get 500 calories in a day. But I think I'm doing as well as I can with getting liquids in.

I start mushies tomorrow. I assume that will slow things down some.

Any advice is appreciated.

Patti

How are you feeling?  I know I had ketosis flu - I was losing weight so quicky that I felt I had been hit by a truck and then tossed onto the freeway!  At my two week check up, I told my surgeon if just felt like crap and it turned out I had every symptom of ketosis flu.  I was one of the most severe cases he had seen.  Luckily, it passed after a few weeks (and did get progressively BETTER before it was done) and I was good to go.

Everyone is different.  If you're feeling good, getting your water and protein in and don't forget your vitamins, life is good.  Enjoy the journey.

Mushies may or may not slow things down.  This early out I wasn't weighing very often, so I don't know for sure.  Rest assured, weight loss will continue one way or the other at this point.

Be Well,
Jana

You might be losing stored water from the IV, don't worry, you're doing fine.  If you feel weak or really ill go to the ER but otherwise just enjoy the ride!  It'll slow down sometime, you'll be wishing for these days again!

Start: 487 lbs (8/07) Lost 81 lbs pre op on South Beach. 406 lbs at surgery (6/08). 179 post op, by 2011. I  lost 308 lbs. Gained 98 while pregnant (2012-13) lost all but 25. My goal is to be 179 again!

I agree with Stella, ENJOY THIS....I would give anything for this problem.
I am 3 years out and I am gaining.... it is so frustrating.
but of course if you get feeling really bad, always check with your doctor.
Good Luck
