Update and Venturing into Plastics!

Hi All,

Hope this finds you all well.  I'm doing okay - been going through a blue funk lately.  No particular reason that I can pinpoint, but just 'blah', don't want to eat what I'm supposed to eat, certainly don't want to move my body (but I do, sometimes!).  I seem to be talking myself into the 'I've lost so much weight and how much can I expect from my body - let's give it a rest!!!" Ugh!

I'm back at the YMCA and I'm committed to going to at least 2 water classes per week and hitting the gym at least twice a week.  I like interacting with others and am surprised how many lap band people I'm meeting.  I hope to get back to swimming laps here soon, too.  I had my left knee replaced in late January so I have to take it somewhat slow in getting back into things.

Yesterday I met with a local plastic surgeon.  I'm looking at a lower body lift as the extra skin goes all the way almost to the middle of back.  My breasts need a reduction and LIFT of about 12 inches!  I would think that anything over 6 inches should be referred to as a HOIST!  About my thighs - well, this plastic surgeon isn't big on the idea of a lift that involves an incision down the inner thigh due to potential poor wound healing and also he says it doesn't work really well in the long run.  He is willing to remove the fat deposit/skin at the top of the thigh by doing an incision that is up where your panties ride (upper thigh) though he did admit that this scar tends to "migrate" down about 2 inches over time.  I said I really didn't care about that - at my age I shouldn't be wearing shorts that short and if I'm in a swimsuit, no one should be looking that close!  The surgeon says that we're looking at removing around 20 pounds total through these surgeries and maybe a pound or two more if we do my arms.

All in all, the surgeon says anytime I'm ready, we'll start running things through insurance.  They took pictures yesterday - nothing like seeing yourself neekid and in photos, eegads!!  He said he thinks I have a pretty good chance of getting a lot of things covered by insurance just based on the pictures alone, but to start documenting the rashes, my belly button getting infected, etc.  I'm not looking to have surgery until summer of 2010; my RNY and knee surgeries have been during the school year and frankly, it's hard on my dd and on my family.  I'm thinking taking some time off in the summer where I can spend some time with dd and not always in a rush getting her to school, homework, school activities, etc.

Nothing else really new here.  I've lost about 215 pounds now.  I'm going to take the next 10 - 12 months to get in shape and see how much more weight I can lose before going into plastic surgery.  I don't want to go much below 200 (25 more pounds) as I figure I would come out of plastics at about 175 to 185 and that's perfect for me.  In high school I was about that weight and was wearing around a 14 to 16.  Weight loss is slow - I seem to drop a good 5-8 pounds then I gain 10 - 12 pounds in water weight (that's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL) around my period and it slowly comes off and then another 5 lbs or so, then back up.  Oh well.

Take care,
Jana

I am wishing you all the luck in the world.  I began my journey 5/16/08 and have lost 124 lbs, and I have begun to be a jiggily, wiggily, saggin, draggin mess.  Hoist nothin,  I am gonna need a complete body overhaul!!!  I have the same list of procedures to be done.  I have started to save and prepare financially for all the plastic surgery that I will need so that in the event that insurance won't pay, I won't be caught off guard.  Good luck and be well.

What is your BMI?  I had my lower boy lift done at around 32 BMI and it worked well for me.  I have since lost more weight.

I think you idea of pucnhing it for the next year is a good one.  You have done so wonderful.  Go you!  Loris

Thanks for the responses.  My BMI (I had to recalculate!) is about 35 right now, I'll be around 31 after 25 more pounds.

Here's a little wow moment.  I graduated from high school in 1983 and a classmate was just named head football coach at our high school.  The class is getting together and wants to throw a party for him after the first football game.  I just agreed to go!  I didn't go to my 10th nor 20th reunion because of my weight and horrible memories of high school; I graduated weighing around 180 - didn't want to show up at the 20th weighing 440!  I figure I can go this fall weighing about 30 pounds more than I did 25 years ago.  Not bad, not bad.  I should be well out of plastics by the time our 30th reunion comes.

Yep, it's vanity and revenge and I.DON'T.CARE!  After being teased throughout high school, moo'd at at the lunch table (under the guise of "all in good fun!"), and on and on, you bet I have some issues and scores to settle.  Besides it just gives me a short term goal to aim for.

Glad to hear plastics went well for you, Loris.  My doctor said to expect to be out of work for 2 weeks for the LBL  - I thought that sounded awfully short.  Any thoughts?

I hear you about saving up money!  The doctor told me I'm looking at $7k for breasts, and $17k for LBL.  Eegads!
