Striving to be healthy

It sure is frustrating to travel this journey when we start out SMO.  Our main board counterparts reach goal in a year or so and the lightweights get down right thin in less time than that.

Some SMO WLSers never reach a "normal" BMI for many different reasons including the weight of excess skin, the inability to be active enough and the body just refusing to let the last excess pounds go.

I think a more realistic goal is a healthy weight.  What weight would be considered heart and joint healthy?  Face it, none of entered into this be beauty queens.  We have always been beautiful.  We want to live long and comfortably and to feel attractive.  One does not have to be tiny to do that, but we do have to be in a healthy range.  What does our surgeon and PCP say?  How does our body feel?  Strive for health and except less than perfection in the dressing room.  We are all winners!  Loris

Loris,

Thanks so much for this uplifting comment.

I have been a little down on myself with my 1st anniversary coming up, and not being where I thougth I should be.

I have been a little lax with the exercise over the past few weeks, and not making the best food choices over the past few days.  I have had so much stress in my life in the last 2 months, that I just don't know what to do.  I know these are just excuses, and that I must get myself back on track.

Thanks again for encouraging a healthy weight that is realistic... even if I am not sure what that is for me right now

Thanks.  I to have been under a lot of stress.  I lost my mother on March ninth.  I started keeping food by the bed and was munching through the night.  That lasted only two pounds worth.  I didn't want to be that person and had a real fear of major weight gain.  I know that is different than making poor food choices, but it shows how far I can go even four years out.  I am a food addict.

I read some of your profile.  You are doing so well!  All journeys have an ebb and flow and we have to allow for that.  Keep up the good work.  Loris

Thanks for the inspiring reality check.  I lost my 202 lbs and then proceeded to eat my way back up a few pounds in just a few days.  I've been doing a lot of stress eating myself.  Have to put my eyes back on the goal.
