Mom Update
After a very rough night last night I just got back from meeting with Mom's Hospice RN. It's been decided that to get through this newest "crisis" Mom will have 24 hour in home care. The first nurse will come at midnight tonight.
I can't tell you what a relief this will be for me.
Last night Mom fell as were trying to help her from the bathroom to bed. She had no strength and was absolute dead weight. In the past my husband has been able to lift her but last night it just wasn't going to happen. We ended up pushing her lifeline button and they sent the Fire Department for a non emergency lift.
We all got her settled in and she finally fell asleep. This morning she was very agitated and confused. That's when I called for the nurse or Dr to come out. This is been so tough, and I know the worst is yet to come.

I am very sorry you are going through this. I went through this last summer with my Mom. We had the ambulance out several times to help me get her off the floor.
Keep you chin up Jan. I know its hard. I pray she has a peacefull passing. Just know she will be in a better place and the pain of this world will be gone forever.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Tommi
I'm so sorry, hon. Your post brought back memories of my own dad. I have no idea how many times the ambulance had to come out to help my mom.
Yes, 24 hour hospice is a blessing. It's difficult to accept, but it is a blessing for your mom and for you, too. May she cross over with peace and knowing how much she will be loved forever.
If you are able, please consider talking to one of the nurses about the stages of death. I know it's a difficult subject. However, we didn't learn soon enough and I think if we would have known more ahead of time, we may have been able to get more family members (me included) home to be with Dad in his last hours.
You're in my thoughts and prayers. (((Hugs to all)))

Thank you Jana.
I was actually given a book about the stages of death form a Hospice nurse early on. As of the other day Mom wasn't even in what they considered "actively dying", I'm not sure if that has yet changed, but I will find out. I have no problems talking about this at all.
My Dad died in Hospice care and my Mom volunteered at our local Hospice for 17 years, she was just honored for that service. I'm blessed to have Hospice in our lives. When it was my Dad's time they were able to tell us within an hour as to when he's pass.
Mom has requested that when the time gets closer she be transferred to "her" hospice so she can be surrounded by friends as well as family. Everyone is aware of this request and will do everything they can to help her with her wishes.
I am very thankful for all the resources we have right now.

Jan,
may you find comfort in knowing that you have help there for your mom. I know you are on a rough road, but it sounds like you are handling it well!!! Be sure to take care of yourself too... All my best to you and your family!! I hope that your mom is not suffereing in any way. I am glad that you feel like you can share all these moments with your OH family. If you ever need a should to cry on... I am here...Perhaps a cyber shoulder...but a shoulder none the less!!!
